Disappearing Library

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that entire folders  from my library will often be gone on a reboot. For example, I have a 'kids tv' library that has 2 different folders on two different drives. If I reboot the computer the content from one of the folders will often (but not always) disappear from the library.

The odd thing is I have actually bookmarked some of the films that fall offline, and If i manually go to this bookmark the film shows up and plays fine. It just doesn't display in the library.

At first thought I was thinking maybe its an issue with the drive itself, but I've tried this across a few different types and models of drives with the same result.

A library rescan instantly fixes the problem and everything appears as it should, but if anyone has some suggestions on how I can resolve this I'd appreciate  it. Pulling my hair out trying to get this to work and stay online properly.

Thanks!

+1. This happens to me as well. I have no explanation.

Is it the same media that disappears?  Just a guess since I don't have this issue, but could the Clean database task cause this?

The clean database task is set to run every 24 hours for me. I don't think it is related (that said, I'm not 100% sure what it does exactly).

I think I may have fixed my problem though, mostly via this thread

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/13035-server-missing-a-media-location/

Under scheduled tasks/scan media library I added a task trigger for 'on application startup' and it now seems to work properly and find all the folders in my library when I reboot my machine or the server.

I've actually never touched this option though, so not sure if it is meant to be on by default as suggested in that thread or if something has changed since that was written..

This is actually just an issue of performance. You can resolve it temporarily by adding a library scan to server startup in scheduled tasks.

The first time you access any content it is pulled out of the database and cached in memory for fast access. We used to run the scan at startup for all users, and you had become trained to wait until it was complete before doing anything. Now, we've removed the startup scan, and on some systems this happens because the first time you go to access content, a lot of records are being pulled out of the database, so the blank screen is leading you to thinking its' not working.

The next major server release should resolve this as it has numerous performance improvements. Workaround in the meantime is just adding a startup scan.

Thanks Luke. I've actually just left it for 30 mins or more at a time after reboot without touching anything but it still doesn't seem to show in the library (without the startup scan).

It also causes an issue as I'm running Kodi with the emby addon, which means that Kodi updates and removes all those items from the library.

The startup scan though seems to have completely fixed my issue for now, but will keep an eye out for the next server update and give disabling it a try once that hits.

Cheers.

I have the same issue here. Running on Ubuntu. Everything (media) are stored on local disk drive.

after reboot (hopefully not often), no more media.

Media Libraries still well configured (kept the right folders in memory).

Scan was needed to make media appear  again...
