No Tuner Devices after installing plugin

Here is what I've done:

-upgraded to Windows 10 Pro 64bit from Windows 8.1 (WMC).

-removed WMCserver and cleaned out other files/programs that were now obsolete in Windows 10.

-verified Emby server/web client is functioning properly.

-downloaded NextPVR and configured one of the ATSC devices (Hauppauge Tuner) then was successful in getting it to playback live OTA TV by adding LAV audio/video codecs (more on this later).

-downloaded the NextPVR plugin via the catalog in Emby

-restarted Emby and went to "live tv" where nothing is showing up under the "Tuner Devices".

-checked to make sure NextPVR was an Installed Service under the External Services tab.

I have done no other configuring as I don't want to mess anything up.  The guide at Emby suggests that clicking "add" tuner devices" should do the trick if nothing shows up but this is not the case.  Clicking "add" and "other" Alerts me to go to External Services for available options.

Another frustrating thing about this upgrade is that NextPVR client is so significantly much slower than WMC.  I seriously am beginning to regret the switch.  It is just that Emby Theater is touted as being so close to launch I thought I would upgrade my Server/HTPC early.

It is close to launch. Does schedules direct have service in your area? If so, you might want to consider an HD Homerun so that you can use the built-in live tv. Please note - I am in no way trying to suggest that the next pvr plugin does not work or is somehow inferior. It is just the reality that you have to deal with when trying to chain together multiple pieces of software.

As for your current issue, best to see how to report a problem.

Luke thanks for your quick response.  Funny you mention this I literally went to purchase an HDhomerun Extend on Amazon and it was out of stock.  In fact it is out of stock virtually everywhere.  I'm curious as to why it is out of stock (did they pull them from shelves?)

ATM I'm troubleshooting getting MPC-HC to work with Kodi (another headache).  I hate to say it Luke... but a lot of these problems could be resolved with a beta Theater release!  :)

I'll post a log up here tomorrow.  I'm burnt today (at least 8 hours in front of this screen working on this thing).

What exactly is slower? Are you talking about NextPVR itself? It should be every bit as fast as WMC. You mentioned LAV earlier. These decoders can cause slow channel changes for a lots of users. These only matter when you're watching in NextPVR's own UI.

If you're talking about it being slow in Emby - yep, but this isn't NextPVR's fault (and is the same in the other plugins too). It's down to Emby having to sample the channel data for a while, as part of setting up a transcode etc.

Yes this is true. It is not a fair fight to compare a desktop application such as WMC to the browser because we have to do a lot of gymnastics to make it playable in html supported formats.

Yes in the NextPVR application it was very slow compared to WMC.  I did however remove all LAV codecs and loaded Kodi with NextPVR's TV function and the performance is much better.

I actually am a little pleased with it.  It looks nicer than WMC did (with the exception of Emby Classic).

Now I just need to figure out how to use madVR with the native Kodi player (can't get MPC-HC to work as an external player) and then figure out how to load channel logos in Kodi.

Question to any Kodi user.  What backend would I need to use in order to have Live TV with the HDhomerun Extend?

What specifically are you finding slow? Are you talking about the user interface - if so what specific screens? or are you talking about change channels or something else? I'm always keen to get feedback on problem areas so I can improve those. So far your description of what is slow doesn't really pinpoint any areas for me.

NextPVR should work fine as the backend with your HDHomeRun Extend

I don't think Kodi can use the madVR renderer since it's playback is no directshow based.

NextPVR client was slow at changing channels.  I did, however, only play around with it for the better part of one minute before I closed it and loaded the add-on in Kodi.  I find that it is adequate (as fast as WMC) in Kodi so no complaints there.

Now the only problem is getting NextPVR to work in Emby.  Once I get it to work in Emby.

I did not know madVR was directshow based.  I was trying to use MPC-HC as an external player for Emby movies and I couldn't get it to work (screen would flicker when selecting a movie and nothing would play).  I do think that I can live without madVR for the time being.  All my rips are full BD quality and I don't see a noticeable PQ improvement with anything madVR can offer (including ArgllCMS calibration).

Also, I got Kodi to work at 24Hz... so I'm essentially a happy camper at this point.  It would be nice to fix the Live TV function and then dress up the TV guide with channel logos (WMC and Emby Live TV looked beautiful after I did this).

Perhaps I'm not setting up the settings appropriately for the plug-in.

What is supposed to go in the address box?  My server address followed by the server port?  Or do I put the port listed in NextPVR? (I think it is 8866)

Attached is the most recent log file.  I removed the NextPVR plugin and then reinstalled the plugin (still no tuners showing up) then I grabbed the latest log.  I copied and pasted the log into a rich text doc... I'm not sure if this is common practice let me know either way.

Thanks!

Sorry, I can't read Emby logs, but generally the only settings you need are the following:

"NextPVR Base URL" (if Emby is on the same machine as NextPVR):

http://localhost:8866

"NextPVR Pin:"

0000

Ok I fixed that thank you for the help.  I restarted server to see if that fixed it but still no tuners showing up.  Maybe it'll fix itself in the next few hours.

I should probably post another log since changing the base URL.

Actually this one might be the most recent.  Right after the server reboot.

Can you enable debug logging in the nextpvr plugin?

He complains about the url....

What's the url you use? http://localhost:8866 ? Can you browse to that one? What do you see?

That URL is the one I entered.  My server is on the same station as NextPVR.  That URL brings me to the TV guide web page which I'm assuming is correct.

The box for debug logging has been checked.

Still no tuners show up under "Tuner Devices"

Ok, but then you also need to post a new log file. So i can check what's wrong....

We now have native Hauppauge support available for testing in the Emby Server beta:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54560-32609-hauppauge-support/?hl=hauppauge

No plugin required. Thanks !

Very cool Luke.  I actually have been using an HDHomerun Extend for a little over two years no and have been very happy with it.

I'll keep the Hauppauge in mind for next time especially since it has FM and allows the server to do the transcoding.  Sometimes the HDHomerun can't keep up with the demand.
