Olywa123 46 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) I don't personally use network locations but the info here may help unless someone says otherwise. Note: Screenshots in this FAQ are from MB3 so may look a little different. Edited November 4, 2015 by Olywa123
Luke 42079 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 you're on windows? the user account that emby server runs under needs to be able to access those locations. is that the case?
scotttobin 1 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Hi I am dumping Plex (UGH!) and trying to install Emby and having this same issue. My path is \\192.168.86.70\video but i get that error mentioned above. I am not sure how to check/verify what Luke suggested above.
Luke 42079 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Hi I am dumping Plex (UGH!) and trying to install Emby and having this same issue. My path is \\192.168.86.70\video but i get that error mentioned above. I am not sure how to check/verify what Luke suggested above. Hi, welcome. Can you please provide the server log? http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks.
scotttobin 1 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 here you go server-63593618508.txt server-63593618509.txt server-63593618808.txt server-63593683200.txt
Luke 42079 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 do one of these correspond to a timeframe when you tried to add the path to your library?
scotttobin 1 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 and just to confirm my steps i am here http://localhost:8096/web/wizardlibrary.html and click Add Media Library. I then enter in the path of \\192.168.86.70\video and get this: There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and the Emby Server process has access to that location.
scotttobin 1 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 i have also tried going to http://app.emby.media/connectlogin.html?mode=manualserver and do the same thing and get Connection FailureWe're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again. GOT IT
Luke 42079 Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 The 63593618509 log is basically empty, are you sure that's the right one? Why don't you try it again, recreate the error, then provide the current server log. thanks.
Luke 42079 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 It does look like permissions. The user name or password is incorrect. System.IO.IOException at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) using the same server machine, are you able to browse this path in windows explorer? If those files are on another machine, make sure they're shared in a way that allows you to access them. If they're on the same machine, then just add them using the physical drive path. \\192.168.86.70\video
scotttobin 1 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I don't really understand what you are telling me to do. I can access the files easily on window Explorer with that path. They are sitting on my synology drive on my network.
Luke 42079 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 it looks like the paths require a username and password. try opening them up to everyone on the network, or at least your machine/windows user.
scotttobin 1 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 i dont understand. Look i am not super technical with this stuff so if you give me instructions, i can do it.I can already see the folder, in fact if i go to my browser and put in \\192.168.86.70\video it goes right to it as well. Seems like this is more of a software issue with Emby but again, i am just following the instructions and reporting the error. Getting a bit frustrated here though. Shouldn't be this difficult to get up and running.
scotttobin 1 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Any help here? Is there a way to get help directly from Emby?
ebr 16184 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 You are getting help directly from Emby as well as our great community of users. However, this appears to be a case of network setup and permissions. It is almost impossible for any of us to help in great detail because these types of access problems depend on the exact details of your environment. From what we can see, Emby is functioning but the network/file system is not allowing access to the files.
scotttobin 1 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Well what do I do? As I said I can access this folder in many ways with no permission issues. Even Plex can see it just fine. Only Emby can't. How is this not an Emby problem? I need some steps to try as what you've suggested is not working. 1
ebr 16184 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Is it possible you've pointed the system someplace you may not realize? Like pointed to the root of a drive that would then cause us to try and read all the contents of it - including maybe protected system files? Try stripping your library setup down to just one location and be sure it isn't a drive root and then build it up from there.
EODCrafter 181 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) This has never really been answered. I have emby installed on Windows server 2012 100 Gb SSD. My tv shows and movies are on drive d and I have even mapped the network drive but I still get the same error as above if I try to add the library. I obviously can't move a whole lot to a 100 Gb SSD so what is the answer to this please? There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and the Emby Server process has access to that location. Edited August 11, 2018 by EODCrafter
Luke 42079 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Hi there, please attach the information requested in how to report a problem. Bear in mind, we highly discourage adding mapped drives to Emby and instead just add the original network location.
EODCrafter 181 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) Thanks @@Luke, I don't think this is Emby related but if I can't figure it out I'll send the logs. I'm pretty sure it's a simple Permission problem, that I can't figure out. Yes.....That was it. I copied the Server data from Drive C:, Windows 10 Drive, and put it on Windows Server and that User that was created for Emby did not have access on Windows Server. Solution: I recreated the Server with the Administrator Account and all is well. Edited August 11, 2018 by EODCrafter
