Music Integration Problems

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi

I LOVE using Emby on my server to manage media with Kodi as the front end (until Emby supports ArgusTV!). The plugin integrates really well allowing a seamless experience - great work!

However, the music integration is problematic for me. My emby server correctly shows hundreds of albums, but in Kodi, only 30 are accessible. Same for artists, songs etc.

I recall a mention of this somewhere here but cannot find it again.

Is this a known issue? Should I be using release or beta versions for the best chance of this getting resolved?

All advice appreciated

Peter

So I went ahead and uninstalled Emby plugin from Kodi (15), added the beta repository and re-installed the plugin from there (showing as version 1.1.31). I did a fiull local databse reset from the Emby addon menu but no change

I have 362 albums showing in my emby server. Only 32 get imported into Kodi.

Anything else I can try?

We need a log from after a db reset.  Please see the 'how to report a problem' thread and reset again and post a log.

Thanks,

Are your albums tagged with musicbrainzIds (the ones not syncing)? How's your music structure?

@@Angelblue05 No tagging at all.

I reinstalled my client system completely (downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1). I installed Kodi 15.1, switched on debug and re-synched.

I still only see 32 of my >300 albums in Kodi front end. Log attached.

Emby Server is v 3.0.5675.1 on Windows 7

Emby Plug-in is latest from beta repository (sorry, can't see anywhere obvious in Kodi settings where specific version is reported)

Any assistance appreciated

Peter

Can you validate this situation? I'm guessing because they are not tagged, the albums are not being created, right?

Any pointers on how I should use musicbrainz? I wouldn't expect to have to use a 3rd party utility in order for emby to pick up files? (in facet, it does find them all server-side, just not communicating fully with Kodi plug-in?)(

The log you provided is still no debug log. We need the log from the moment when you initial synced the database.

In Emby settings set the log level to info.

Exit the settings (to save)

Open Emby addon settings again and press the button to do the local database reset (full resync)

In the first question answer YES, the second question NO.

Reboot Kodi and let it perform the full resync. Once that is finished close Kodi again and send us the Kodi logfile

Can you search in Kodi for one a song contained in one of the albums not syncing? The one album that's not syncing for me is one I created because it's not an official album. However, since it doesn't have a musicbrainzId, the add-on doesn't sync the album. It will sync the songs however. Maybe that's what is happening for you as well?

I think it may be related to the "Singles" issue, I've noticed that some albums are not importing properly and the tracks are getting marked as "Singles" and the Albums are not listed.

I've created a User with only 1 Album (Adam Lambert - The Original High) that I know doesn't import correctly. I've attached my Kodi.log (I had enabled info logging in the Emby plugin)

Are you saying that if a album does not have a musicbrainz id it will not sync?  If so, does it need to have the id in the tag or just be searchable in the musicbrainz db?  further, if that is the case, what will it take to get discogs support?  I use beets to tag all my files and when it is not found in musicbrainz I find it on discogs.

and lastly, even if not found, if the file is tagged correctly, regardless whether it is found, shouldnt we just let emby use the local information, sort of like with nfo files and kodi?

If they are not tagged, the album becomes categorized as singles. I am not really in charge of the music process because my library is pretty small. I don't know if it's a requirement of Kodi, however it is a known issue as others have reported seeing this issue.

its fine.  not something I am using currently, but it caught my attention and I wanted to inquire.

Still haven't solved this problem.

I access my music collection from a number of UIs (Jriver, iTunes, LMS, Oppo Network Interface). In the past I've also imported directly into Kodi and MediaPortal.

All of these 'just work', picking up the file structure on the server (artist/album/track).

I really like Emby and it's a super solution to a centralised media library that serves a number of client platforms. However, this inability to provide access to my music collection is a real problem.

I Downloaded MusicBrainz tagging software but that looked like a real world of hurt, very time-consuming with poor documentation - I really don't want to be running a 3rd party utility just to get Emby to work.

Is there an easy to follow guide on what I'd need to do to get tagged up properly?

Thanks

What exactly are you looking to do? The singles issue should already be resolved in beta. Have you reset your library? You don't require to use musicbrainz. I have a few albums I made up myself. Emby picks them up correctly (artist/album/track). I just have to set the artwork manually and add the artist name for the songs. Then they are added to Kodi.

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to have Emby (Kodi PlugIn or App) correctly make all my 300+ albums available for playback. Right now, only ~30 show up as albums and half of those have no songs.

I'll try a full reset on the server - I might have gone down the wrong road with the MusicBrainz advice.

Cheers

What version of the emby for kodi add-on are you using? Stable (1.1.39) or beta (1.1.51+)?

@@meep

Clarifications:

The singles issue is resolved in the beta version of emby for kodi. Have you installed it and reset your Kodi database (add-on settings > advanced > reset local database)? Leave the musicbrainz tags on the server as is. Let your content resync in Kodi and let me know if your album issue is resolved. Thanks.

@@meep, one thing I recommend, beets.

I run it is a docker container, but it can be run on Windows and Linux alike. It can auto tag all of your files from music brainz. It really is quite smart.

As long as your albums are in good shape and normal, it should find them. . Anything obscure or not automatically detected, you can define. Everything not in musicbrainz won't change.

Once set up it is awesome, I did my whole library. I need to re-visit music in kodi. But all the re-syncing currently required makes me not like it since it really slows the sync process.
