Chuck 17 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Log.txt After installing Version 3.0.5675.1, I'm unable to access the configuration page unless I do a complete system reboot. I'm running Emby as a service. It accesses fine after restarting the computer. But, if I then restart the service, the configuration page hangs without loading.
Chuck 17 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Seems like since installing Version 3.0.5675.1, LiveTV has gone completely wonky. Unable to play channels, sometime tuning grabs a tuner sometimes it doesn't, when it does grab a tuner it doesn't like to let it go, attempting to reset the tuner doesn't release. Also, unable to access configuration page after service restart. I've started threads on each of these challenges, but would like to go back to the working version. Edited July 17, 2015 by Chuck
Luke 42078 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 This has nothing to do with the release so I am combining these threads. Emby server binds to a socket and sometimes when releasing it takes Windows a few minutes to make the port available again. This is normal and you can google all over the web to read about. That is why you might see this occasionally if you are restarting Emby server rapidly over and over again. To solve it, just wait a few minutes, or restart the computer. As far as the tuners go, there are no changes here, and really it's not the server opening the tuner. It simply sends the instruction to whatever live tv plugin you have installed.
Chuck 17 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Interesting. This configuration access delay seemed to be new with the upgrade. However, I've started a fresh install, and the configuration pops up as expected. I'll be testing tuner challenges after this fresh install shortly.
Luke 42078 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Fresh installs are only going to frustrate you. I guess it is the classic longtime Microsoft way of thinking, hey let's just solve everything by rebooting or reinstalling. Better to report it, we'll help you, it will save you time, and then you won't be feeling like you have to reinstall the software every time you run into a problem.
Chuck 17 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Sorry Luke ... By the way ... How did you know that I worked for MSFT> ;-) 1
Luke 42078 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I didn't. But I know that for everyone who has ever owned a windows computer, those are always the first things that come to mind whenever there are problems. For the truly random problems I guess a reboot is ok. But for everything else it's inevitably going to just come back and frustrate.
Chuck 17 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 (edited) Will make sure that we work to resolve future challenges. The LiveTV remains a challenge after the install, adding EmbyTV, configuring for the tuner and guide. Thread posted at http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23451-emby-tv-not-getting-tuner/ I understand you're note above about the socket binding. Though it is interesting that once I fiddled around testing the LiveTV functions, the configuration page challenge came back. So, you are correct, fresh install did not resolve the challenges. Adding a more recent log in the event that it's helpful. Log.txt Edited July 17, 2015 by Chuck
armyb77 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I have the same issues, I have been playing around and it seems that the problem also happens with ServerWMC and EmbyTV. I have a feeling though that it has to do with a DRM channel flag that has changed. I seem to have no problems for most of the channels, but I tried Fox News and it created the symptom you are describing. It also happens with HBO and Cinemax Channels (which I know on FiOS is flagged DRM). So my assumption at this point is it has to do with DRM flagging. This also stops all other videos from playing once the error occurs and remote restarting of the server locks up requiring a manual Windows reboot to get things back to normal. Thoughts? Armyb77
Luke 42078 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Just pick one thing, then see: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/790-how-to-report-a-problem/

armyb77 2 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Last Log Server_Log_After_Lockup&Server_Restart.txt
Luke 42078 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Last Log what is this for? as far as DRM, you have to check with your live tv plugin to see what it supports. EmbyTV uses the Dlna feature of HDHomerun. I do not believe that grants access to Drm channels but I am not positive.
armyb77 2 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I just posted all the logs associated with the server lockup (unable to access configuration without full reboot). The last log was the time from when I remotely restarted the server and it locked up forcing me to reboot.
Luke 42078 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 it looks like the refresh guide task was running and doing a lot of db operations. it might have just been running slowly.
Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 After doing the fresh install, the server configuration came up with no problems, even with multiple server restarts. The guide refresh also moved right along without issue. But, once I tried watching LiveTV, which doesn't work now, the server configuration started locking up.
Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 (edited) Sorry ... Accessing the Config after service restart. Same issue. Seems to be related to LiveTV as opposed to socket binding. No amount of waiting seems to help. Only a full system reboot. Edited July 18, 2015 by Chuck
Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 (edited) http://localhost:8096/web/dashboard.html I've also noticed that most non-DRM channels will tune. HBO will not. Also, when HBO is tuned, EmbyTV grabs a tuner, but doesn't release it when it's tuned to HBO. It does release other tuners. And, attempting to "Reset" the tuner does not release it. Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 what is this for? as far as DRM, you have to check with your live tv plugin to see what it supports. EmbyTV uses the Dlna feature of HDHomerun. I do not believe that grants access to Drm channels but I am not positive. HDHomeRun VIEW app doesn't have a challenge with tuning these channels. So, I assume the DLNA pass through shouldn't be an issue. But, I could be wrong with that assumption.
Luke 42078 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I think that assumption is wrong because they can't provide any security over the content when making it available over Dlna. That would then violate agreements with content providers.
Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 Curious ... I thought the HDHomeRun VIEW app used DLNA too. I wonder what they're doing different with their app.
Chuck 17 Posted July 18, 2015 Author Posted July 18, 2015 Mmmm ... makes sense ... the HDHomeRun VIEW app doesn't have a DVR function. So, this suggests that HBO and other copy protected channels would not be able to be played through EmbyTV LiveTV. Did a little more testing, and it looks like the lockups happen when tuned to HBO. So, I'm wondering if something is getting hung in the server when a copy protected channel is selected.
