Erik 124 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Hello, I have always had all my media shared on the network as \\server\movies for example, I tried to use path substitutions (as I saw in another post it allows the server direct access which is faster). From: M:\movies to \\server\movies however this never shows up on the network and users are not able to access it. Any ideas or guide on this would be appreciated. Thanks. Server is running on windows server 2012r2.
Angelblue05 4132 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 You have to make sure the share exists (\\server\movies) Basically what you need to do is share your M:\movies following the first post here: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/703-how-to-make-unc-folder-shares/ Then the server will be able to associate the path substitution with the share. Hope this makes sense
Erik 124 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 ok, so I should have it shared the way I always had. Then add the path substitution. Then setup emby libraries I should point them to the local folder. Sound right?
Solution Angelblue05 4132 Posted June 19, 2015 Solution Posted June 19, 2015 Basically in your situation - Path substitution would avoid you from having to remove re-add your Emby library. So, leave your library as is, with local path (M:\movies) Then, in Windows, share M:\movies following the link I gave you (first post only). Then add the path sub: from M:\Movies to \\your-server-name\Movies That's it! 1
Erik 124 Posted June 19, 2015 Author Posted June 19, 2015 Perfect thanks. I had always references everything via the share, so I'm interested to see the difference this way. Thanks again. 1
