Hi

I would like to have two movie libraries. HD and Lower, 4k. I prefer to not use filters to see only 4k. Is it possible to have the separate libraries and use the Multi version detection option so it combines all the movies from both libraries?image.png.3dcf4bb7b0883793bfc629fc280dbd77.png

Super confused by the question.  You want separate libraries to differentiate based on quality but combine also based on differences? That makes ZERO sense to me but I digress and pass to the people smarter than I am.  What "filters" do you speak of?  Is a dropdown box too difficult for you on what version you would like?

Hi sorry to be confusing.

Ill try and make it clearer...

On the home screen I would Like Movies & 4K Movies Libraries. Not just Movies as shown in the example.

This will allow me to look at 4k movies only with ease. No use of search filters required.

But in the standard movies library I would like to use the multi detect function to include the 4k. So I can see all versions and use the drop down in the example you gave.

Basically have a 4k movie shortcut as a library and also included inthe normal movie library.

Hope that is clearer

Thanks

I think you could achieve this with STRM files, depending on how you store the media. If you have the media in the same folder used for the non-4k content, you can create a folder for the 4k content with strm files that point to the originals. This would give you multi-version in your "main" library while also seeing the 4k separately, without duplicating the files on your storage since the strm is just a link to the other file.

Thanks Ill take  a look at this

Try this an example below:

Separate them at the library / folder level:  Folder Structure -

F:\Media\Movies\4K

F:\Media\Movies\1080p

Then you can create 3 different libraries. First is your main "Movie" library that includes all paths then...

One called "4K Movies" that only includes the 4k folder and one called "1080p" that only includes the 1080p folder.

Uhhh I would be warry about that, I have seen DB break by doing that.

I have my TV broken out like that...  Not movies though since I don't care too much like the OP does.

MyShows

WifeShows

KidsShows

Documentaries

Animation

FamilyShows

Then one big library encompassing all folders above called "All TV-Series"  Been running like that for 5+ years now with no issues, but I suppose YMMV?

Overlapping paths is more of an issue when used for different library types AFAIK, but same type should be okay. 3 libraries isn't necessary, a second library with a separate folder with STRM for the 4k files should be sufficient and not have any overlap issues - again depending on how they're stored currently.

Im happy to try the strm method. What is the best way to create these files? With a large collection?

Why try to make and do work to create "extra" STRM files to manage, whence I gave you a potential solution with existing files?  I have a pretty large collection myself and as I mentioned, I do this for TV shows with ZERO issues... but YMMV.

For movies, you just need to ensure you follow the proper multi-version naming guide so the movies will be aggregated under the main Movie library.  I'm sensing moving files around is probably not something you want to do, but long term proper folder hygiene and structure is in my opiion the best route to prevent creating extra "work arounds" as I deem them creating STRM files or symbolic links (for old timers) etc.

Try both ways and see what works best for you.  I would recommend using a few 4k and a few 1080p files rather than going shotgun and see what best fits your needs.

Ill give it a try with a small collection. My folder naming and structure is on point.

I have tried with different libraries and seems to be working fine.

I wanted to have a movies library but when I add separate folders for 4k, 4k remux, HD. It doesnt merge the movies between them. I have to add the top layer folder that contains these to work. Unless Im doing it wrong?

If I add separate folders to a movie library in example (these folders are all contained within a parent folder)

image.png.ce874aa765d3c94ba0af9f9ecb084192.png

The multi-version wont merge them together like so..

image.png.e8dd619bdde61623b4ed8280f247ed1c.png

That only works if I use the parent folder only, with the sub folders inside.

Is this correct?

No, it should work either way. But it likely will not work if these folders are also used in other libraries.
