Opp should know that a computer only works, if opp knows how to use it.

Until now it only does what opp tells it to do.

Do you mean disconnecting from the incoming phone/fibre line, or cycling the mains power?

As you mentioned Plex working, I should just mention that in situations where your internet setup is restricted, Plex may instead send your data via its own servers - you should be aware of this if privacy matters to you.

What I'm saying is that every time I try to connect to my server using an app that is not on the same machine as the server, the app does not show my server till I unplug my router and plug it back in.

 

I| also have a question. Would making a rule help? and is there supposed to be an outbound rule for embyserver.exe?

You had media servers for 16 years, and don't know how TCP/IP networking works?

You don't even know how to "ping";  16 years my ass!

You expecting the Emby community to teach you how to use your computer, perform BASIC troubleshooting and networking is ridiculous, and then even more so when you have a tantrum saying no one is helping you!

Why would you need an outbound rule inside your local network? Can you explain that to me with your 16 years media server experience?

Because the server machine has a firewall itself, of course.  But the necessary rule there is likely to be in place automatically.  The commonest reason for no machines other than the server to be able to access the server is the Public/Private networking thing, which is also something that can get altered in Windows updates.

But the router shouldn't affect that. Knowing whether "plug and unplug" means the power (hence rebooting the router software) or just the network cable could still be useful.  But I can't help thinking there's something else simple that we are not asking or being told.

Reserving an IP address for your Emby server is part of the router setup.  Maybe that is not your issue.  If that is the problem, then it IS a router setting and any server software cannot fix it because, in this case, the router is not remembering your server IP address and giving it to the next user that uses the Network.  Router setups are different.  It's posible to set a lease duration or reserve an IP address for your server. Sometimes this matching IP to hardware can work automatically.  Assigning different IP addresses is how DHCP routers work.

I install Windows patches every month,  in the over 11 years I have been running Emby on Windows I have never had a Windows Update disable or block access to Emby

Given that the OP doesn't know networking or even how UAC works (Luke had to tell him to run the installer as Admin user) god knows what he has done to screw things up.  My point is that this is not the place to learn how to use Windows and Networking basic concepts.

Again this is basic networking fundamental concepts, nothing to do with Emby

Yes, of course.  The problem was from Neverexists setup.  Maybe he / she has a router that gives up the server IP, when the server is turned off for a while and then on again.  That could explain the issue reported. But it could be something else.

Dude out of my 10 years with emby, I have never once had to run it as administrator.. so stop youre witch hunt its pathetic!

Obviously, you guys have never read embys own guide on troubleshooting cause then you would know about the rule

Wow! You guys are too busy picking on someone instead of actually helping, which means you guys aren't smart enough either hahaha. If you're not going to help, then go troll somewhere else cause last time I looked, forums were for help. NOT bullying. You guys are pathetic!!! btw I figured out what was wrong myself, no thanks to you guys. Go, bully someone else!! btw it's you guys that have no business here.

btw all I had to do was reset my router from my laptop! not by unplugging it.

So you need to login on your router, and restart it?

If that's the case that would indicate that the router is faulty.

Yea this isn't normal. If you are having to do this regularly then you may want to look at why this might be happening.
