vincen 78 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Hi It looks like an annoying bug for non english users. At least for movies it doesn't get genre from metadata databases or don't save it when it gets metadata. Here is a movie scanned with Emby setup in french for metadata (same file with Emby in english and no problem). In english it shows well as a Science-Fiction movie. Genre is not even saved in emby database (and bug would be just a display issue) as a search in science fiction doesn't list the movie Emby server 4.9.3.0 on Debian Linux No need to ask for logs as I won't give them (for obvious confidentiality reason). Thanks Vincèn
Luke 42505 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Hi, could be due to metadata provider returning different data depending on language. Could also be due to locked metadata.

I already checked for metadata provider that is tmdb here and the problem is not present on their website for few movies I checked. After more investigations, movies have either no genre at all in french in Emby or only 1/2 while in english they have 3/4. What do you mean by locked metadata ? metadata edited by hand in Emby ? I just checked few ones and no metadata locked ! Edited May 6 by vincen
Neminem 1729 Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Just did a quick test of this movie. I set the metadata to French. And I dont see the issue with Metadata - Genres But without logs, op can hop and dance as it likes. 1

Thanks a lot for the test so it's not a general bug but I still can't find what does that I have deactived all plugins just in case but exact same issue... For logs already explained why I don't share them all the more when it's also impossible to remove any attachments later in a post...

vincen 78 Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 Something else I can try to find out the issue ? out of deactivating all third parties plugins to be sure it's not one of them that creates that issue !

GrimReaper 4987 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 27 minutes ago, vincen said: As stated before I won't share logs for obvious confidentiality reasons Which obvious reasons would those be? Logs are anonymized by default if downloaded through the UI - you can also sanitize them yourself before posting - as you can PM it to any of the Devs, as well. 2

They are not properly anonymised as public IP address of server is visible in it for example I didn't know it was ok to send direct at PM, will do that, thanks

Thanks for confirmation it's not normal I have sent the log to Luke for my genre issue. Should I open a separate thread for the issue of anonymisation not working properly for logs ?

It is being seen as a local IP address The server has one network port with direct public IP (it's in a rack in a datacenter) and the other one with a non routable IP that is connected to a local LAN for monitoring and management. Emby is configured to use an external domain that points at public IP of server and it has an SSL certificate (Secure connection mode is enforced). Thanks Edited Tuesday at 01:20 PM by vincen 1
sa2000 767 Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:30 PM @vincenI have been unable to reproduce the issue - with a file named in the same way. I tried 4.9.3.0 as well as 4.9.5.0 and 4.10. beta We need to establish why this happened after the metadata was obtained from themoviedb and thetvdb and omdb 2026-05-23 16:50:34.728 Info App: Genre 'Science-Fiction' removed from metadata for Projet Dernière Chance. 2026-05-23 16:50:34.728 Info App: Genre 'Aventure' removed from metadata for Projet Dernière Chance. Lets see if debug logging adds any clues Checking the metadata providers, themoviedb returned the above two genres for the movie: "Science-Fiction" and "Aventure" thetvdb would have returned: "Adventure", "Comedy" and "Science Fiction" Could you get me a list of the directories that are below this path: /metas/emby/metadata/genres Also a screenshot of the Films library view from the HomeScreen and and selecting the Genres tab and after this, lets repeat your steps with debug logging enabled Enable debug logging on the server: Server settings / Logs / Settings / enable debug logging: Yes Restart the server Remove the movie "Projet Dernière Chance (2026).MULTi.2160p.HEVC.EAC3 [tmdbid=687163].mkv" from the library With the movie removed and no longer showing, restart the emby server again Once up and running, add the movie back to the Films library below the "/medias/Films/" directory wait for the scan to complete and then open the movie details and select edit metadata and get me screenshots of the sections for External IDs, Genres, and the very last section: Metadata settings and send me the new embyserver log by PM Thanks
