Subtitles in Upper Left Corner

Hi Luke! Unfortunately, the issue you mentioned still exists in server version 4.10.0.10.
Windows 11 Pro | Build 26100.8117 | LG WebOS 06.10.75 (LG TV UJ701V)
Only standalone .STR files display correctly. Subtitles embedded in .MKV files appear in the top-left corner.

Hi, for testing, can you please send me a link via PM to a file that has the subtitles appearing in the top/left corner? I cannot reproduce this issue, so a specific file will possibly help to identify the cause of this issue. Thanks

If you can't reproduce it, you probably have a different setup. This happens on EVERY MKV with embedded SRT, so if you've tried one or two of those then the problem is elsewhere. There's no ambiguity about this, it's not "certain files". It's all of them.

This happens with absolutely all files (mkv or mp4) that have embedded subtitles; there's no exception, it's not a matter of some working and others not. Are you an Emby developer? Does that mean that after four months the Emby team still hasn't identified the problem?

Hello! As Cactus and NAA67 have already mentioned before me, all .SRT subtitles embedded in .MKV files are displayed incorrectly—without exception. That’s why I included my configuration in my previous comment. However, if I left something out or you’d like more details, please let me know.

OK. I can reproduce this using an older client build which should be similar to the current release.  I can confirm that it has been fixed in the current build, so it should be fine in the next client release (which shouldn't be far away). Not sure why some are reporting that rolling back to an older server release fixes this, but it does need a new client version.

It did happen to occur at a time of an LG client update to Emby on LG, yes, but there were recent updates to server as well.  It just so happens that going back to a previous server build somehow fixed the issue so must be some combination of the method between the January LG client along with server version combination.

Possibly, the case.  Either way, I could reproduce it with an old client and the current beta, but not with the upcoming client and current beta server, so I expect you will see this resolved in the next client release. Thanks

It is every single subtitle for me, except PGS ones (image based). I'm told it's any subtitle embedded in an MKV file, but I'm pretty sure it's also affecting e.g. SRT subtitle files lying next to the main MKV file. For testing, though, use any MKV release with SRT subtitles.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the last page where everyone else wrote the same 😆

Re your comment about SRT files lying next to the main MKV... I always have SRT files in the same folder/location as the MKV, and never had an issue with subtitles appearing top left. Only when subtitles are embedded within the MKV (as others have said on this thread) is there a problem.

I wanted to call this out in case you are indeed seeing this alongside problem? If so, I speculate maybe you have the SRT AND embedded subtitles within the MKV, and Emby is defaulting to embedded and hence the top left issue?

You're right! I just tested specifically this, and SRT subtitles next to the MKV do show correctly 😮 It's only the embedded subtitles in the MKVs themselves. Thanks for the correction! ❤️

The Emby 4.10.0.11-beta changes includes "Subtitle rendering Fixes". I've installed it and can confirm it does not resolve the problem, but given the lack of more detailed information on what the rendering fixes are, they may not be relevant to our specific situation anyway.

Five months later, LG users still can't enjoy content with subtitles. Will the update that fixes this at least be released in May? Not a word!

HI, apologies for the delay. We are aiming for the next day or two. Thanks.

Hi Luke, as stated many times by @SamESalready - this particular issue should be resolved with the next release of the LG client app

How does this new stable server build help here?

So, it's still not fixed? Until the next LG update? And when is that expected? It's been 5 months already!

Can anyone confirm if this update fixes the problem or do we still have to wait?

The next client release fixes it.

Oh really? They have been saying for 5 months, almost 6, that in the next version of the server, they will release a new one and they continue saying that in the next one. Honestly I feel cheated.

It takes time to get the release through LG, I have tested it and it should be fine in the next client update.

Thanks for the update @SamES

It's understandable that some people on this thread are grumpy about the time taken to resolve this issue, especially if they are heavily dependent on the subtitles, but I wanted to express my thanks because at least our LG TVs continue to be supported. I am confident the new client release will fix the issue, and if not, there will be plenty of people who will be happy to pile on 🙂
