Subtitles in Upper Left Corner

Well OK, consider though that if LG did an update you didn't notice or some other update happened, not Emby, the symptom could be the same.  Subs used to work and now they don't.  To really test that it is an Emby issue, can someone see if the subtitles from these files still work on an older Emby version?  Until you test that it could be some other change that caused this problem.

It works perfectly on Emby 4.9.1.80; the problem isn't with our LG TVs, but with Emby itself—it's the server version or the LG app. Luke said a month ago that they were preparing a new server version that would fix this, so they're already implying that it's not a problem with LG TVs but with the Emby server.

And no, we're not going to use third-party software to extract subtitles or change the format. That's why we're using Emby, so it can automatically manage all of that. I don't know about the others, but some of us have more than 5,000 files (mostly in original version with subtitles), and we're not going to do that one by one.

This problem has been going on for two months now, and if a solution isn't offered, LG users will have to consider migrating to another platform, because this is a significant issue, and LG users keep experiencing playback problems.

NA,

Thanks.  Seems like you have pinpointed it correctly.  It would be nice to know the cause and fix, when it's resolved.

'One by one' can be streamlined to potentionally one click to extract, convert and replace all 5000 media files and possibly a few sessions to transcode graphic subs to .srt. Repeating commands one at a time, is not required, once you set up a batch.  I am not sure from your post, if you were already aware that was possible.

  1. ffmpeg or mkvtools can be scripted to extract all the subtitles, from every media file, all at once and replace the original media with copies that have no embedded subs. (Back all files up first.) -  [ One click or Enter key for each directory tree. ]
  2. There is also a batch conversion option to change graphic subs to srt.  Those could also all be done at once. Example software: https://subtitletools.com/convert-sub-idx-to-srt-online - [ Drag and drop all files to convert. ]

An extra plus, after auto extracting and converting, is that the demand on your server will be improved.
