Benny72 0 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 unable to remote access from android to qnap can connect on local network but unable to connect over wan pls help
Luke 42077 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Hi there, what exactly happens when you try? Have you ever connected remotely before using any device?
Benny72 0 Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 It first time setting up so I've found the wan IP open the app on Android and put in IP and port 8096 just throws a box up saying check unable to reach server
Luke 42077 Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 OK did you setup port forwarding in your router?
Benny72 0 Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 Yes set up port forwarding also restarted router and Nas drive still does the same
Luke 42077 Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Can you show us how you setup your port forwarding?
Luke 42077 Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Can you show us a screenshot of the setup in the router?
Benny72 0 Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 I can't find port forwarding on the qnap I'm sure you use to be able to forward on there as well
Luke 42077 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 Hi, is that your router, or your QNAP Nas configuration? Normally you would setup port forwarding in the router.
Benny72 0 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 Yes I run things like Plex ok I just can't get emby to work remotely

You need to port forward to your private (internal) IP address of the QNAP NAS which is hosting your Emby Server (eg. 192.168.0.100, etc)

But from a privacy standpoint, doesn't that sound a little invasive?
Luke 42077 Posted January 4 Posted January 4 @Benny72 please let us know if this advice helps. Thanks !
Benny72 0 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I think it's my router I'm running through a (three) router and tho I have done the port forwarding the upnp doesn't seem to be working
Benny72 0 Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 I've tried installing it on my Synology bas and it doesn't connect to that one either and for some reason its not letting me add media to that one

Benny72 0 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Thank you I've now added movies to my library on my Synology still need to figure out how to access remotely
Luke 42077 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Are you sure the ip address that you entered into the port forwarding rule is correct?
Benny72 0 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Yes go in to emby click cog then gives LAN and wan IP unless I'm missing something
Benny72 0 Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Yes I use to but not with this router I didn't have issues when was on broadband but now I've moved this is my only option
Luke 42077 Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Have you checked to see if your new ISP is using a cgnat? If they are then remote access will require a vpn such as tailscale.
