Neminem 1518 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Ok so the devices that connect are wired, right.

Neminem 1518 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 (edited) Try looking at your router / AP's if this is the case. Connecting from Client Apps | Emby Documentation Edit. Since it only via wifi you see the issue, it might be this. Edited December 13, 2025 by Neminem
Neminem 1518 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Mobil = Remote access. Have you set that up? But first lets get wifi connection working.

Neminem 1518 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Yes, but read the section I linked to.

Neminem 1518 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Did you check you wifi settings? Like described here. Router AP Isolation If you find that wired devices can access the Emby Server but not devices on wi-fi, check the router wi-fi settings to see if "AP Isolation" is enabled. Disabling this would allow wi-fi connected devices to see other devices on the local network. This would be a valid setting to have enabled for a "Guest Network", so check first if your wi-fi is configured as a Guest Netowrk.

Remember that other server has a relay feature that routes everything through their own severs when a direct connection isn't possible. But doesn't that feel like a privacy violation? Don't you want a personal media server rather than one that puts all of your information into the cloud to sell to the highest bidder?

Well yes it does, however im sort of ok with that if my server works on anything i want to connect to it... i still havent come across a solution but for the moment its working on web and the tv so it`ll do for the moment, if necessary i can use that *other platform* when away from home. disappointing though...because i do prefer emby.

Luke 42077 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 Hi @Smeghain. We can have @sa2000jump in and help you with this. Thanks.
sa2000 674 Posted December 29, 2025 Posted December 29, 2025 wow - a lot has gone on and a lot of changes made. A bit late to say this now but you should run your server and applications on a platform and OS you are very familiar with and know how to use and troubleshoot. Using linux on a NAS when one does not have very good knowledge of the OS is not a viable option. But you have taken this route - so lets get it to work especially when the issue is probably outside the NAS. Secondly, I would only use winscp for getting files from the NAS. I would use PuTTY to start an ssh session and login directly to linux and use linux commands to navigate and get familiar with using the built-in vi editor if you need to edit and save files. There has been a lot of changes made and we need to keep in mind that the current setup may still have some issues with file ownership/permissions - but lets leave that aside and see if you encounter issues relating to that. As I understand it, the remaining issue, which is the same as the originally reported issue, is that wifi connections on the local network and mobile data cellular connections cannot get to the server. As suggested before, these two are different and we should tackle separately. Lets first look into the local wireless network - leaving the mobile cellular connection issue till later. You have a windows PC. Does it have wifi ? if you can get wifi available on the windows PC and get it to operate with the LAN interface disabled but the wireless interface connected and running, then we can use tools such as wireshark to see what happens when you try to connect to the emby server through wifi - coupled with embyserver logs with debug logging enabled. Let me know if we can go with that.
Smeghain 14 Posted December 30, 2025 Author Posted December 30, 2025 @sa2000 I can connect to the internet on wifi on the pc i can access the nas on wifi also the only thing i cant seem to do is get it to connect to emby for some unknown reason I also run a plex server which i can access through wifi and celluar on any device...the problem lays with emby only for some strange reason. I used to be able to used emby on wifi on the home network but i could never get it working remotely or on celluar.....pretty sure I have all the correct port forwarding and such done corretly.. but any suggestions would be great.

I used to be able to used emby on wifi on the home network but i could never get it working remotely or on celluar.....pretty sure I have all the correct port forwarding and such done corretly.. but any suggestions would be great. Lets start by getting me first some diagnostics to get a view of the configuration - you can zip all files / screenshots and send me by private message as i want to see raw unsanitized emby server logs So connect to the emby server on a PC through the LAN and click on the settings cogwheel in Emby Web top right corner and select Logs within the server settings page and then click on the Logs Settings tab. Set Enable debug logging to Yes And then click on Dashboard link in the server settings page and click on the emby shutdown/restart icon next to the emby server name and select Restart Emby Server and then confirm by clicking Restart on the dialogue box. Once the emby server is up and running again and accessible through the lan, navigate into libraries on the PC Then on a mobile phone connected to the local wifi network open safari or chrome or whatever browser you have and start a private/incognito session and type in url http://xxxxxxx:8096 where xxxxxxx is the local IP address of the emby server. I am assuming you are running with default port numbers. Note down the time and let me know if that gets forbidden or you are prompted to sign in Get a copy of the emby server logs - you can use winscp for this and download all the embyserver log files in the logs folder Also please download this file "/volume1/@appdata/EmbyServer/config/system.xml" Could you get me screenshots of the configuration screens in the DSM control panel: each of the tabs for each of Connectivity: Network and Connectivity: Security Also screenshots of System/Info Center : tabs General, Network, Service Also System/Login Portal : tabs DSM, Applications, Advanced Sorry if this looks like an overkill asking for many screenshots and anything set in External Access ? Not sure what router you have and if it is just one router - but would be good to get screenshots of the WAN and Wireless and LAN setup/status and any screens relating to AP Isolation. And what IP address https://whatismyipaddress.com shows You can zip all and send me together with notes / test results by private message and giving me times of the tests i mentioned above Thanks
sa2000 674 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) Just posting an update on where we are on this ... 1. There were loads of database errors caused by switching the databases from a 4.9.x.x installation to 4.8.11.0. This appears to be resolved now after updating to 4.9.1.90 2. The requests from the wifi connected devices are reaching the server but both the android and iPhone requests are coming in with a source IP that is the router's IP Address ! I normally come across this for requests to the local server going through the WAN IP address. Asked for local wifi ip addresses for the iPhone and Android with the current configuration. 3. The Virgin Media Superhub 3 router is connected to a managed switch. I asked for this to be removed and have direct lan and wifi connections to the Virgin Media Superhub 3 router as we have no information about the setup and configuration of the managed switch. 4. The list of port forwards in the router made available to me did not show a port forward for emby on 8096 but one for 8920. I will progress this once the wifi issue is resolved. 5. Unrelated: The server has reached the limit for Realtime monitor for iNotify. This too will be progressed once the main wifi issue is resolved. Edited January 2 by sa2000
sa2000 674 Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) Thanks - before getting the managed switch removed from the network, if not too late, can you get me the current local IP Addresses of the 2 mobile devices when connected to wifi - just to see if the subnet is different So in connection settings on the android and ipone phones, you should be able to view the wifi connection and the detail would give the IP address and the SSID (and is the SSID the one on the SuperHub 3?) That is the same subnet as the Emby Server Awaiting debug logs and screenshots from the tests where the managed switch is removed. Very strange that the source IP was 192.168.0.1 on the requests from the phone and android when you did the last set of tests you provided me logs for.
