Grimm23 1 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 Hey all, so I recently changed ISP and naturally was assigned a new IP address. Under my Emby Server web settings it does show the new IP address for remote connection, but when I go to "add new server" and manually enter the new IP address it fails to connect. Is there something in the core files of the Emby server that I need to manually update so that I can connect with the new IP address? I even tried using the Emby Connect username/password to connect but it won't. Even if I run my new ISP through my old router/modem combo and go in to the router setting to set a static IP back to the old IP address and connect to that router it does show the old IP address under the remote connect in the web settings but won't connect either.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 Please look thru the KB and the troubleshooting steps. As it will be portfowarding or your new isp is a cgnat. https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html#:~:text=error like this-,External Connections
Grimm23 1 Posted November 15, 2025 Author Posted November 15, 2025 So after looking, my new ISP does have cgNAT, I called to see if they could give me a static IP but they don't have them. After looking a bit more I did find out that you can bypass cgNAT using a VPN, does anyone have a good VPN recommendation that is easy to set that up and user-friendly with emby and won't break the bank too much?

Been using this for years. Note that you'd need to setup port forwarding.
Grimm23 1 Posted November 15, 2025 Author Posted November 15, 2025 I am hoping that I can set up port forwarding through the VPN? Cause sadly I can't do port forwarding through my ISP directly. Sadly it is T-mobile 5g gateway home internet and all other ISP options in my area suck majorly so really hoping that I can make this work with them, cause the speeds are great compared to the other ISP that I have tried and tested.
Neminem 1518 Posted November 15, 2025 Posted November 15, 2025 Try with Tailscale · Best VPN Service for Secure Networks It should be able to circumvent CGNAT. But never used it so can't help setting it up.
