Ihategettinganotheraccount 0 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 I am running Rocky Release 9.6. and can't connect to the server outside of my network. I assumed it was my router not being configured to allow it. I am in an apartment though and can't change anything there. I have been using Nordvpn Meshnet but since Nord has shut that down that is no longer an option. I do have my own hotspot. I configured the port forwarding I think how the Emby documentation reads. I used the home IP address. I still can't load Emby through a browser that isn't the server. https://www.canyouseeme.org/ can not see me. With all that I am wondering if its not the apartment router blocking it.
brothom 177 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 @Ihategettinganotheraccounthave you followed this guide https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html? How are you trying to connect with your server, is it via <remote_ip>:8096 or using some other method? Your local installation will also have to have firewall settings configured, the docs on Rocky's firewallhd got me this: https://docs.rockylinux.org/10/guides/security/firewalld-beginners/ Besides the port forward, you'll need to also clear/allow those ports as in- and out-coming.

I'll look when I get home but I know I did some stuff. It also seems since I was able to through meshnet that the firewall isn't the issue. yes remote ip:8096 Edited October 13, 2025 by Ihategettinganotheraccount

Luke 42077 Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 Are you able to connect from other devices inside the server's local network?

Luke 42077 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 OK, well what does this mean? Quote Warning: ALREADY_ENABLED: 8096:tcp Do you have other software already reserving the port?

I assume it means the port is already open, Since that was the response to me attempting to open it. 2. To my knowledge no, unless Rocky Linux itself uses it. I do not know how to check though.
Luke 42077 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 For the address that entered into the port forwarding, are you sure that's the right value?

Well it has to be the local address, not remote. Are you sure that's the correct address for the server machine? Emby Server should detect the correct IP address, but you should still verify to be sure. Also what options are available in the port type drop down?
Ihategettinganotheraccount 0 Posted October 14, 2025 Author Posted October 14, 2025 I don't know how to verify the local address. The remote is correct I am sorry but what drop down menu?

Luke 42077 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 It’s the one right in your screenshot with the port forwarding settings.

Still having the problem. Been trying to see if I can make this work by using zerotier. Haven't quite figured that out yet, at least on mobile. My laptop, not the server is out of commission temporarily due to hardware failure so can only test on android which I can't connect under any circumstances.
