GL.iNet Flint 2 - Port Forwarding Wars

Hi all,

Today I've upgraded from my crappy ISP-provided to a GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000 Wi-Fi 6 AX6000 Home Router). Great router - cannot for the life of me get Emby remote to work.

I have followed the guide here and looked up how port forwarding works on the device here with no luck yet.

I have set everything to default for now (will change later for security) but so far I have:

  • Set up port forwarding rules for 8096 and 8920
  • Set up DMZ for the IP of my Emby
  • Changed the security settings to open ports 8096, 8920, and 7359 completely

Still no joy as yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

For reference, I currently have Emby 4.8.8.0 installed on a Terra Master F2-210 (hence the old Emby version - damn you Terra Master app store admins...)

Apologies if this is on the wrong topic.

Hi, can you please show us how you setup port forwarding in your router?

Yes of course:

So been doing more research - I have a networking problem that I can't easily overcome. I am with TalkTalk Business in the UK and their routers cannot be set to bridge mode as far as I can tell. I've got the Flit 2 router set as DMZ but I have no idea really what that means - but I guess I now have double NAT. I'm wondering whether this could be getting in the way of port forwarding?

Small update: tried to get UPnP working via the LuCI interface on Flint 2. Two problems - 1) no idea what most of it means haha. 2) Doesn't seem to be adding any active redirects... Even after rebooting Emby server.

Anyway, I'll see what you come back with Luke!

Quick note: I’ve used AI to help me write this update — I’m not very confident with networking and want to make sure I’m asking the right questions.

Just wanted to follow up with some new info and questions.

I’ve spoken with my ISP (TalkTalk Business, UK) and confirmed that their router (SG4K100208) can’t be set to bridge mode. I’ve added my new GL.iNet Flint 2 router to the DMZ and set up port forwarding for Emby (8096 and 8920), but remote access still isn’t working.

Here’s a quick recap:

  • Emby server is running on a Terra Master F2-210 (v4.8.8.0)
  • Flint 2 router is behind the TalkTalk router (double NAT)
  • Flint 2 is in DMZ and has port forwarding rules for 8096 and 8920
  • WAN IP matches public IP (no CG-NAT)
  • Tried UPnP via LuCI — no active redirects showing
  • Emby is accessible locally, but not remotely

Questions I’d love help with:

  • Does Emby struggle with double NAT setups?
  • Is there a way to confirm whether Emby is receiving external connection attempts?
  • Would switching to a dedicated modem and placing Flint 2 directly on the line resolve this?
  • Are there any known workarounds for remote access when bridge mode isn’t available?

Thanks again for all the help so far — I’m determined to get this working and really appreciate the support!

Sorted it by adding port forwarding on my ISP router!
