Connecting to server on new laptop

Hello - I am trying to access my server using a new laptop and nothing seems to be working. I have tried numerous ways to access my server, including opening up the 8096 port in Windows Firewall but no luck so far. I bought a new phone recently and it connected to my server immediately without any set-up at all. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly. My laptop is in the same room as my PC which holds the media and is running Emby, and naturally they are both connected to the same router.

Is the network type set to public (wrong) or private (correct)?

Windows 10 / 11 does some dumb things with Network Discovery also...  If you click on the My Computer - Network you "may" see a big yellow bar on top asking to turn on network discovery.  Do so.  I'm not gonna pretend to know what all this crap means any more.  Was way simpler back in the pre-windows 7 days.

This is an update to say that nothing has worked so far. My SmartTV and phone connected to the server immediately. But on my laptop all it wants to do is set up a new server.

I have Emby Premiere but I assume that makes absolutely zero difference, consistent with my overall experience so far.

I looked on my dashboard on my main PC under 'Network' and there is no such option.

Hi @RobertLaingdid you go through the guide that I linked to above? What steps did you do from it?
