ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Have been using emby now for about 6 months works awesome I love it but last month can't get it to work right away from home on my phone can't log in no matter what I do. I was using it through my Wi-Fi at work and it was working great and then all of a sudden doesn't want to work anymore I have determined that it's on my end something with my router or the settings on emby. Any help would be great. Won't be able to answer anyone until I get home from work in about 4 hours.

ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 Hi Luke When I'm home everything works perfect. When I'm away from home at work for example I go to sign in and it goes to the ad server page and it gives me my IP address the only one it shows is the one I use at home I try to put my wan in and it won't take it it says cannot connect. And when I try to sign in with emby connect it does the same thing it says it cannot reach my server at this time. But everything was working fine before I could access it at home at work in my truck I don't know what happened. I run Windows 11 pro with Xfinity Internet and a Netgear nighthawk cable modem and I checked last night everything is open to allow an incoming signal but I must be missing something anything you could help out with would be great.
ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 I forgot I also use it on Apple TV Plus and Nvidia shield TV they both work perfect at home except for Apple TV Plus won't give you Dolby Atmos and DTS x but we won't get into that now
ebr 16177 Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Hi. Any chance your ISP changed your public IP address?
Luke 42078 Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Have you setup port forwarding? Connecting from Client Apps
ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 Sorry I meant yes I did. Do I have to fill any of this out like the remote IP address filter.

Dr. Technolust 5 Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Might want to check out Tailscale it’s a free tool that sets up a secure private network between your devices. I use it to access Emby when I’m away from home without opening any ports. Just install Tailscale on your home computer (where Emby is running) and your phone, log in with the same account, and it’ll give you a private IP like 100.x.x.x you can use to connect to Emby directly. It works even if your home IP changes or you’re behind CGNAT. Way easier and more secure than port forwarding. Let me know if you need help setting it up.
Luke 42078 Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 Did you actually add any port forwarding rules? Connecting from Client Apps
ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 sorry i'm not very good at this stuff i just know enough to get by. no i did not & no idea where to do it
ron1423 0 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 i'm reading the set up port fowarding now on emby help section

I am VERY Leary of this type of app. It may very well be perfectly benign with no side effect but trusting that type of app, with the power it has to really screw things up. is something I would be VERY hesitant to do. 17 minutes ago, ron1423 said: i'm a little nervous about messing around with my router If you do change things in your router simply make a note, or series of notes, about your current configuration before you change anything and you will always be able to return to your starting configuration. It is quite tedious but it is pretty safe.

It is quite tedious but it is pretty safe. I get the concern, and it’s smart to be cautious. But Tailscale is actually designed for people who don’t want to mess with their router or open up ports. It uses secure technology called WireGuard that’s trusted by a lot of companies, and it keeps everything private and encrypted between your own devices. You log in with your own account like Google or Microsoft, and you stay in control the whole time. There’s no need to change your router settings or expose your network to the internet. And if you don’t like it, you can uninstall it and everything goes back to normal. Honestly, it’s much safer and simpler than opening ports on your router exposing your network to the masses. IJS 1

IJS I do not trust the app itself. I have no real reason but app that seem to do the impossible are often, but not always, nefarious by their very nature. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the app or with using it but it just seems to be too good to be true and that is a HUGE red flag for me. BTW: I also do NOT open my network to anyone and I do NOT allow remote access as I believe it to be too dangerous. I try and avoid the most dangerous actions and adding an app that gives, by its very nature, full access to my network is quite dangerous. I am not telling anyone not to use the app I am just raising a warning flag about allowing anything I am not in control of the kind of access the app gets by default.
pwhodges 2012 Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 You have uPNP enabled in yopur router, so Emby should be ab;le to set up the port forwarding - but this can be disabled in the Network setup[ in Emby. You should check whether it's currently enabled. Paul
ron1423 0 Posted May 14, 2025 Author Posted May 14, 2025 Want to thank everybody for their advice I tried looking at it a little bit last night but I'm going to wait till the weekend to try and figure everything out if I have any questions I will definitely be back thanks for your help... Ron...
