maravig 1 Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Hello! I'm new to Emby. I installed the media server on my laptop. I added my libraries which are located on a desktop right next to it. The firewall rules are in place. I've tried both in lan and remote wan addresses, but it will not connect from my firestick. The Media Server is running in Task manager. I did setup my Connect account and my dashboard shows everything correctly. Any idea what I'm missing? Jeff
visproduction 315 Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Hi, Either run Emby for Android as an app on your TV, or get a Internet Browser app for the TV and try to connect to your local IP address for the server. Many TV Browser Apps do not like connecting to IP addresses. They tend to block them as insecure. You can try http://192... in the URL and also try incognito. On it's own Firestick does not see the server, because you are not running any app on the TV. Hope that helps.
tollgate 8 Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Visprodution. He's trying to use the Emby app on the Firestick. Having the app on the TV will not help the Firestick connect. 1
ebr 16169 Posted May 5, 2025 Posted May 5, 2025 Hi. On your LAN you should not need or try to use Connect. Your server should be found automatically by the app. If it isn't, it suggests that your firewall rules actually aren't setup properly.
maravig 1 Posted May 5, 2025 Author Posted May 5, 2025 I checked and Connect is not running. I know this has to be something simple. Never had an issue with Plex...until they started charging
Luke 42077 Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 Hi there, what exactly happens when you try to connect?
maravig 1 Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 Hi Luke, It just says error connecting to server. I've tried the internal and remote IP addresses. The service is running on my laptop and the firewall has the inbound rules properly set so don't understand what the roadblock is. Jeff

maravig 1 Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 I checked and I don't see any outbound rules mentioning Emby.

maravig 1 Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 Here are the inbound rules. I don't have anything in Outbound.
ebr 16169 Posted May 7, 2025 Posted May 7, 2025 What are the titles of each of those columns? Are you sure the path is pointing to the actual process that is running?
ebr 16169 Posted May 8, 2025 Posted May 8, 2025 16 hours ago, maravig said: How can I confirm? Look at that full path then look at task manager and see if they match. I can tell you that the UDP rule is not working if the app didn't automatically find your server. Other rules could be conflicting with these or these may not be tied to the proper process or something else may be interfering.
maravig 1 Posted May 8, 2025 Author Posted May 8, 2025 I checked the path of the exe and they match. Do I need to add Outbound rules in my firewall? I only have the 2 rules in the Inbound area.

maravig 1 Posted May 10, 2025 Author Posted May 10, 2025 Yes I have, and I've tried each method. The only things I can think of is am i missing any outbound rules and does it matter the library is on a different machine?!

As a test, can you try temporarily disabling Windows firewall and then checking if the app works? If it does not, then it's likely the firewall is not the problem. Also, shares from another machine are fine.
maravig 1 Posted May 12, 2025 Author Posted May 12, 2025 I disabled my firewall and still got the same error. I tried using emby on my firestick and not Connect. I tried the internal and external ip and still cannot connect. I cannot figure what the roadblock is. Plex worked just fine.

Plex worked just fine. @maravigPlex worked fine because they have a relay feature that routes everything through their own servers. This automatically kicks in when a direct connection isn't possible, but if it were me, I would find that invasive considering they also sell your information to the highest bidder. For this reason it's really in your best interests to figure out why you can't make that direct connection and get that cleared up. Can you show us how you configured port forwarding in your router?
maravig 1 Posted May 13, 2025 Author Posted May 13, 2025 The port forwarding was off, so I turned it on. Didn't change anything. Should I really not use Connect?
