mmichele9 0 Posted April 25, 2025 Posted April 25, 2025 Hello! To preface this, in-network connections work -- I can open Emby on my phone at home in WiFi, and we're also running it successfully on an Amazon Fire Stick. I am pretty sure even just a few weeks ago I was able to open the server on my computer at work just fine, but honestly my memory isn't great. The only thing I can think of that might be an issue is that I had a laptop for several years that I ran a server off of just fine; a month or so ago I got a new laptop and installed/logged into Emby on this new laptop, and it created a new server. In trying to search for answers to fix this issue, I think I stumbled onto a thread where someone had a similar issue, and folks were encouraging them to delete the old server wholesale, but for the life of me I can't find that thread again to refer back to, and can't remember the details. In desperation, I booted up my old laptop this morning, shut down the old server, and uninstalled Emby from the old laptop in the hopes that would fix the issue, which it didn't. Like the title says -- I've gone through and made sure everything is switched on that's supposed to be on, and followed most of the steps from this connectivity page, up to the part where it gets to multiple Emby servers on a network needing different HTTP and HTTPS ports to be set up for each server, because at that point I started to feel a little out of my depth, haha. Anyone have any advice or help to offer? If I do need to change my HTTP and HTTPS ports for this server to differentiate it from my former server, would anyone be willing to talk me through that (explain like I'm five, please, haha). Happy to provide further info / screenshots, whatever! Thank you in advance!

All you need to do is follow the section in that guide that talks about 'Port Forwarding' https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html#setup-port-forwarding You need to ensure that your router is updated to port forward the correct ports (defaults are fine) to the correct laptop IP address on your internal network. HTTPS is optional, but is highly recommended. Get the basics working first, i.e. HTTP 8096 accessible outside of your network, and then you can tackle HTTPS if you wish.
