Migration time and again problems, corrupt data base

Hi all,

I am really frustrated, because I am running into issues on a regular base with emby.

As you can see in my other posts I am testing a lot to get my ideal home server. I tested emby with a raspberry running on dietpi, on a win based system, on a proxmox server based on a lxc container.

A real nightmare is always a rescan of the media folders. Until today there is no concept and no solution just to change the name of the computer/ip as part of the shared smb media folder name.

Also a fact is, that a scan/rescan of my my media folders end up in a corrupt data base! Why? And the onIy way to fix this is to start from scratch oder to modify the DB with Corrupt Database | Emby Documentation. Really?!  I found out that I am not alone here. Unfortunately emby isn't that stable as expected.

Also my treid to modify just the path in the db ended up in a totally nightmare

So migration is not possible and scan of libraries end up in corrupt data base. I payed for the lifetime license but never had a stable system.

Is there ever a migration tool or folder path changing mechanism planned?

Thanks and greetings

JuRo

PS Currently I am running emby under a diepi Hyper V VM. The usb drive is running on the WIN Host and is accessable via Network/Samba.

Obviously one big folder with all my pictures and home videos produces the issues. I don't know why?! Nothing to find in the log. emby is starting but I can not log in. Error message SQLitePCL.pretty.SQLiteException

Step one already tried:

  1. Delete library.db-shm & library.db-wal

It is not he solution.

Expect that I can fix it. What happens with the next scan of the folder?

This behaviour is crazy the reason is that the user data folder is getting bigger and bigger with every scan ending up in a crash. That is obviously the reason why I can no more log in. From time to time there is a self repair?!

I’ve moved my Emby server back and forth between docker,vm, lxc with no issues. The key is to keep the folder paths and permissions the same.

Hi,

thanks  for your reply.. That's clear. In most cases in my environment i work wirh fixed IPs where I had to change to many other things. Also when you come from a windows machine, this will not work, because windows an Linux path expressions are not the same .... But you are right maybe I try.

But that can not be the reason for other issues. With my Homevideo folder I definatly have issues when scanning. I disabled any chaching functions , but when scanning it never comes to an end and the user folder now is about 30 GB?!

Well There is obviously something in you Homevideo folder that Emby is choking on.

And by the sound of it, it can be reproduced.

But without logs it will be guess work.

The folder did not change over years, but you are right. I will provide logs

Hi, that would be great. Thanks.

I give up, now!

I restored a backup and changed the IP of the Host where the USB is connected, so that path names don't have to be changed so everything should be fine.

So the restored library folder don't have access now, user and pw can not be changed. What a crap. I am really getting angry now. If you create the folder new everything is fine, but then of course again a re scan.

The process is unusable. I spent days now and every time the same stuff.

Now I have It , even the share user has to have the exact same name and PW?!

What a design?!

Can’t you configure user access for libraries after the restore?

user and pw can not be changed

What do you mean? What exactly happens when you try?

On the new server where the usb is connected I had to enter the exact same share user with exact same pw as on the machine before. This obviously also can not be changed in emby. access denied was the message in emby, but the user and pw were definitely correct.

@juro1971did you figure this out? Can you please show a screenshot example of what screen you are referring to? Thanks !

As I said I gave up. The only way to migrate from system A to B is to keep the exact same smb shares with exact same user and password. From windows to Linux it is impossible to changes anything.  In my case I also had to change the ip ...

Then all works fine. All other cases ended up in a nightmare where it obviously is better to start from scratch.

I still can not understand where the challenge is to implement a simple renaming function for media library folders.

Thanks and greetings!
