danzigman 6 Posted Wednesday at 03:36 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:36 PM I tried to find out how to do that but couldn't figure it out. When I checked the folder sizes, I realized that it was pointless to do so because the thumbnails only took up 8 MB of storage. Do you think the app performance will be tolerable if I move the database files? They take up around 500 MB. For context, I'm running Kodi with the Emby addon in an smart TV using Google OS. It has only around 4.3 GB of internal storage, and there's 350 MB of free storage left. I could not delete any of the other apps, just disable them, and I need the ones I installed: I think Netflix with around 130 MB, Projectivity Launcher with 23 MB, SmartTube with 81 MB, StreamVault with 47 MB, X-Plore with 40 MB, and Kodi with 147 MB. It's only Kodi that has its data running from a USB drive formatted a device storage, and in the USB drive it uses 296 MB for the apps and 109 MB for cached data. I think I should have chosen a TV with 8 GB of storage or more.

You said you tired path substitution via advancedsettings.xml, right? Did it not work for Kodi as well? If you don't trigger a "cache all artwork" via plugin menu, Kodi will cache it anyway once used and should put it in your substituted (USB) path. btw, even when you free up 500MB, that's very very little for artwork. Thanks for the help. My problem is space. The TV has only around 4.3 GB of storage, and has 350 MB left. When I use it with Kodi (I need the smart playlists) I only have something like 100 MB left, and some app shows up when I turn on the TV asking me to clean up storage. I also used EZ Maint+, disabled the apps that I don't use, etc. I went to the file explorer in Kodi, and found out that the file size of the thumbnails folder is only around 8 MB, and the largest database file is around 500 MB. There's a feature with Android TV where you can insert a flash drive as either removable or device storage. If it's the latter, you can use it to store some apps that allow that, and Kodi is one of them. I used the fastest drive I could find (16 GB Sandisk Ultra something), and it works except that I sometimes get hangs or slowdowns once in a while. FWIW, similar happens when I use only internal storage, and probably because internal storage is almost full. I have a Xiaomi Mi Box player with 8 GB and the same apps installed, and it works great, except that I can't get the audio to work (there's audio from the TV speakers but none from the soundbar and subwoofer). It has an HDMI and optical audio port. The Ultimea soundbar has an HDMI arc and optical port, and so does the the TV. I've so far tried the following: HDMI arc and optical audio from player to soundbar, but no go. I'll see if I can figure it out, but I prefer using the smart TV. For now, I'll try the following: - use advancedsettings and configure any settings for image size to use smaller; - make sure I don't trigger the "cache all artwork" setting; - continue using EZ Maint+ to compact data files regularly. Once they have smartlists in the Emby app, then I'll use that. For now, I tried the workaround involving a plugin that inserts tags in videodata and it didn't do well because Emby for Kodi has to regularly scan the whole database when tags are added, modified, or removed. Of course, if anyone at home needs to have my TV, then that'll give me an excuse to buy a new one with 8 GB of storage or more. Edited Friday at 08:11 AM by danzigman
danzigman 6 Posted Friday at 09:43 AM Posted Friday at 09:43 AM Update: I got the player audio to work! Will work on the advancedsettings features for the TV later. 1
