Not auto-playing next episode

Recommended Posts

I have it setup to play next episode automatically in the playback settings but more often that not it doesn't work. I am currently watching a several season long series and sometimes it does auto-play the next one but most of the time it will just go to a black screen at the end of an episode and I have to manually click the next item button at the bottom. Emby 4.8.8.0 in Firefox. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there, can you please provide a specific example? Thanks.

Right now I'm watching Batman the Animated Series. Season 1 has 60 episodes, all about ~23 minutes long. Most of them do not play the next episode automatically. Only about 1 in 10 will go to the next one. Usually when an episode ends the playback time will sit at -0:00 and will stay there until I manually click the next episode (next item) button.

How does it compare with chrome or edge?

Posted

I will check in Edge and Chrome tomorrow and let you know. I have it playing in the background at work. One thing I did notice on this particular computer is the arrows on the edges Continue Watching and Latest Movies and TV that let you scroll left and right through the list aren't there, both in Chrome and FF. However they are there on other computers.

Do you have a touch input device connected? That could be why.

No, it's a PC using a wall mounted TV for a monitor. No touch input devices at all.

So I will guess Emby is using TV mode.  User icon-App Setting-Display-Display Mode.  May need to change from Auto to Desktop.

Just changed display mode to Desktop but the scroll arrows still do not appear. Just for giggles I changed it to TV and that at least lets me click and drag to scroll left and right. Also, I am not using any custom CSS or code. It's vanilla Emby.

It's also running Win11. Not sure if it matters. I will test it on another Win11 machine later.

Try opening this page in the browser:

https://hover-pointer-media-query.glitch.me/

In the top section, boxes 5-8 should all be green.

Only the first 4 that say :none are green. Hover, fine and course are red. Do you have any idea how to fix that? It's doing the same thing in FF, Chrome and Edge.

So I tested the autoplay next episode on another computer in Chrome, FF and Edge and it does the same thing, but I have a feeling it just the media itself. If I back it up 10 seconds and let it play through to the end it will sometimes autoplay when before it didn't. I also tested with the A-Team and all episodes autoplayed.

There is still the issue with the scroll hover arrows not showing up. I went to the https://hover-pointer-media-query.glitch.me/ site on another computer and hover tests fine and works in Emby so it's not Win11. I have no idea why CSS hover on Edge, Chrome and FF are broken on this computer.

I think I have the exact same problem and while I agree it seems to be certain media files that have the problem and others that dont... At least that is what I thought... Now it has started happening on videos it never happened before on so maybe that assumption is wrong.  It is super annoying since I like to shuffle a playlist at night and having to click next makes me wake up again and not get my sleep :(

Similar, but it is not limited to large playlists (happens the most there) and I'm not doing music this is all TV shows.

I have the same issue with Android and Apple TV. I can see the grey bar moving, but when it gets to the end, nothing happens until I press enter on the remote.

Is it sitting on a screen of rotating backdrops (if you have multiple backdrops) and a "Next episode" button and that's it?
