Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 FWIW: The Windows built in anti-virus seems to work just fine. It is vastly improved from just a few years ago. I know that people do not trust anything Windows (with pretty good cause) but, it seems, that Microsoft has actually produced a good, solid anti-malware system. To me the big players in anti-virus and anti-malware are trying very hard to convince people they need more but I find simple commons sense and the built in protections are every bit as good as the big boys and are free and, usually, do not get in the way of proper operation. There is a LOT of money being made by people bent on protecting others from non-existent threats. Also, if you are really paranoid about a site or set of sites there are many VPNs that provide good isolation for access to questionable sites. Even the free built in VPN in Opera is pretty good, albeit a wee bit slow. I will never again waste money on paid antivirus software.
