User specific media lists

Hi!

What would be the best way to allow a specific user to only see certain movies and shows and nothing more?

My wife will soon teach religion and it would make her life easier if she could stream certain things during class, especially since she could give the kids access to rewatch at home. To that end, I'd need to streamline that user to all religion related media.

Can this be done?

Tag-based or Folder-based access control.

Edit: Tags can work in either "Block" or "Allow" mode.

@sa2000KB article might need updating as it mentions blocking only.

Can I whitelist tags? So far I just saw blacklisting under parental controls.

How exactly would folder based work? Would I just add both folders to the access list for the other users?

Yes, you should have Tag restriction mode dropdown (Block items/Allow only items) in user Parental Control tab?

Ah thanks. I guess I was blind there.

As for folders, for the life of me I can't seem to connect SMB shares anymore. Ah well, tags it is.

You can always open another topic in the respective forum section in order to troubleshoot that.

Nah, I'm sure if I fiddle with it long enough it'll become clear.

Is it correct that tags need to be typed in manually on every media items?

It is, but something like:

would make short work of it.

Ah, good to know.

Thank you! I have another question of the cosmetic variety but I'll make a new topic for that.

This has been done. Both of these articles have been updated Parental Controls and Metadata-Manager
