Convert Media Scheduled Task Failing Immediately

Recommended Posts

My Convert Media scheduled task does not run and shows as (failed). It seems to fail immediately when it attempts to run even when running the task manually.

Running Version 4.8.7.0, but I believe it has been failing for a couple of weeks now on older versions as well.

I have tried clearing the Queued Conversions, re-scanning my media libraries,  and then re-adding the Queued conversions, but I do not seem to be getting anywhere.

The logs show the same thing when the task runs on a schedule or if I run the task manually:

History on me using this conversion process. Two or so weeks ago, I converted my entire TV recordings folder which took several days, but ever since that I cannot seem to get any conversions working. I have rebooted the Windows 11 Pro system that the software is running on and restarted Emby multiple time. Pretty sure at least one update have happened since then as well.

Attached is a log after a fresh Emby restart this morning and attempting to run the scheduled task manually a couple of times.

Let me know if you need anything additional or if there is something else I can try.

Thank you for your help!

@CRB2000are you still having an issue with this? Have you updated to Emby Server 4.8.8?

Unfortunately, your database would appear to be broken.  Not sure if updating will resolve the existing issue though.

Yes, I am now updated to version 4.8.8.0 and still have the same problem.

That being said, I did spin up a new Emby server (on different hardware) also running 4.8.8.0, I tried to restore the config from the original Emby server with the issue and the issue then showed up on the new system as I recall, so a DB issue sounds like a good possibility. I then started fresh and just reconfigured Emby on the new system, and have had no problems with conversions running like they should since starting over with the fresh config.

I still have the original system running with the conversion issue if you would like me to try anything that would be helpful to the community. Otherwise I will be shutting it down and moving forward with the new Emby server.

Thank you for your help!

Yes restoring from backup will just give the new system the bad databases.  Unless by chance you have databases old enough before the issue so technically the plugin should be a minimum of 7 db but probably 30 would be best.  But this really depends on how long it take to see the issues of a broken library.db.

Still sort of a conflict as you have previous backups so you can restore userdata, but is kind of worthless as you need to restore previous users also.  So you would have to manually copy the users.db if you want users and userdata.

@Lukethere really needs to be a Users restore option also so userdata can be restored to correct users for a new setup/library.db.

As of right now one technically must start over when library.db becomes corrupt/bad if depending on Emby backup.  Technically one must maintain a known good db independent of the backup as only one full backup exists.  Sure you can save additional dbs but by default that does not happen but that is hoping the error causes issues that are seen before said backups are overwritten.

Thanks @Happy2PlayI have already recreated all users in the new instance, but having the DBs separate as restore options would have been helpful. And yes, my backups before the issue are long gone at this point in time.

I just found this reference that would probably be the next steps if I wanted to fix/reset my library.db on the original instance:

Thanks again for your help.
