Hello.
My server is 4.8.6 and I refreshed my metadata and the problem still exists.

again the thumbnail is correct and it plays correctly in VLC but is upside down in Emby.

Any ideas - this is annoying.
thanks.

Hi @Lukeplease not no reply to this problem some time ago and my new post from today. Any help please?

Thinking out loud here.
It properly happens because phones auto fixes the rotation when you record because people hold their phones in all kinda of ways.
Maybe looking for a program that can fix the metadata or simply rotate it could be a temporary fix.

Maybe Fileflows, Unmanic or Tdarr has something that can do it automatically so you just throw your files at it and it automatically gives you the finished video after.

Is the media Direct Playing or Transcoding?

Pretty sure there are other topics similar where the issue is only transcoding.

But will assume every client/app is slightly different.

Pretty sure it all comes back to playback method as your issue is only with Transcoding correct?

Per other topics and testing but can be specific client/app also.

OK so can someone please tell me how I know if this is "direct play" or "transcode" as I have no clue.  What setting to I tweak please?

OK I have tried "direct play" settings and it makes no difference - video still playing upside down.

Why does the video play perfectly in VLC or any other video app when played directly off my drive and not through EMBY?

TV's work different to VLC, and in this case the Samsung TV cannot automatically rotate some images.  In this case, we need to force it to be rotated on the server.  This capability is coming on the server but is not available yet.  As soon as it is, the Samsung Emby app will be able to rotate the image correctly

So, in the meantime maybe do as yocker suggested and manually fix them yourself since Tizen can't do it automatically.  At least until server adds the capability to rotate incorrectly positioned video files.  Then you will be able to watch them.

Do we know when this might be added to the server please?  This has been ongoing for some time and I think @Lukesaid a while back it would be fixed in 4.8.XXX

Any ideas please

Would seem odd to rotate them manually via some editing tool only to have to undo that when the fix arrives?

Hi, our plan is for the near future. Apologies for the delay.

Also apologies for the mixup with your community topics. Your posting was not removed but rather it was merged with an existing one that you already created in order to avoid having the same conversation in multiple places. Thanks.

I would think you wouldn't have to undo anything.   Hopefully the patch is smart enough to only autocorrect videos which aren't rotated correctly in the first place.  Just like the other video players do.  Otherwise, everybody's movies will be upside down in the future.

So this is meant to fix the rotation issues for home movies captured on iPhones which is the issues I’ve been having?

if so @Lukethank you but how do I get this beta please so I can test it?

thank you.

The latest server beta can always be downloaded from the link below.  Just pick your OS and click the beta link.

https://emby.media/download.html

Just be aware that if you upgrade to beta there is no way of getting back to the stable tier until 4.9 goes stable itself.

We're going to be turning this around to stable quickly so don't feel you need to jump on the beta just for this.

Hi @Lukeand community.  I note that my Emby Server is now v4.9.1.80 and I was expecting this upside down issue to be resolved based on your feedback in this thread.  It's still the same and I tried refreshing my metadata and no luck.

Is there something else I'm meant to be doing to get my videos to play the correct orientation please?

Thanks Rob

Luke this is precisely the same issue I raised perhaps a year ago.  Nothing has changed following the update unless I'm missing something.

I've already provided all the logs and photos etc of what is occurring - my iphone videos playing upside down when I'm using the Emby Samsung TV app to view home videos from my Emby Server with the version stated above.

I've been repeating that issue for so long now.

All I'm asking is if you claim "all known cases have been solved", can someone please advise if I need to do anything (like refresh metadata etc etc) to get my problem "solved" please?

Many thanks

Will need a fresh set of diagnostics with the current versions of Emby Server and Emby for Samsung. The last fix in the samsung app relating to orientation was in version 2.2.1

The fixes in the server and samsung app addressed the issue where portrait home videos recorded on mobile phone were rotated 90 degrees

So please have a sample test video that you can make available to us and enable debug logging on the emby server and ensure you are running on latest versions of Emby Server (4.9.1.80 if stable release, 4.9.2.4 if beta) and Emby for Samsung - latest is 2.2.4 - see https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/74969-samsung-tizen-smarttv-2015-present-beta-app-install-from-usb/

And please provide the test video (in zip file) and emby server log for the test. I can send you an upload link for the test file - when you can do this test

Thanks

And, as I have requested a few times, can you please send me a small sample video via PM that I can test that plays upside down for you.  Thanks

I'm delighted to report with this information you provided @sa2000my problem is now fixed.

I did not realize that I needed to update the Samsung Tizen app to version 2.2.4 (it was the current version in the Samsung store).

I had updated my server but my TV app was not current.  I installed the new update and presto my issue that has plagued me for year is now fixed.

Thank you team Emby and all who helped me with my large library of home videos.

Appreciate the help and support.  I'm ecstatic.

Cheers Rob

Excellent. By the way, this version is awaiting approval in the Samsung App store, so you should be able to revert back to the App store version in a few weeks. Just keep an eye on the version in the app store
