My MKV Files Are No Longer Displaying in new version 4.8.0.80

That is interesting considering I have permissions set to full control and read/read & execute on all folders, subfolders, and files. Also, why would a later version of Emby have no problem accessing the folders and files, but as soon as it upgrades to the latest it has issues with permissions?

I'm not sure because the server on Windows doesn't really do anything with file permissions. It's all handled by the windows file system layer.

But maybe those four folders still showing up can lead to the answer? How do their permissions compare?

All folders and drives "Type" is set to Allow and "Access" is set to Full Control for Authenticated Users, SYSTEM, Administrators, Everyone, and Users. This applies to All folders, subfolders, and files. Again Emby has no problem reading these files with versions older than 4.8. But as soon as you install 4.8 or newer it just removes them.

With 4.7 working and 4.8 not I am at a loose unless something in the migration breaks your system.  But being on multiple Windows OS builds and Emby versions I cannot cause this to happen.

Have you tried th3e 4.9 beta cycle?

Can you spin up a fresh portable install of 4.8 just for testing purposes to see how that compares?

I installed 4.8.0.80 but still can not access my folders or files with 4.8. Only versions below 4.8, so there is no way for me to create a log file when the app does not even see the folders. I tried the recent beta 4.9 and still nothing.

Is it a completely fresh install from scratch?

Still probably need to see the server logs.

Yes

So apparently if I create a new folder and put the files from the old folder into the new folder Emby reads it just fine. The only difference between the old and new folder is that the old folder's Hidden is faded out and the New folder is not. I have 100's of movies and tons of TV Shows. Any suggestions?

To be clear, my folders are not hidden.

Interesting I would what changed via Emby versions where one can see them and now cannot.  But obviously there is a filesystem issue here.

But can only guess there are attribute issues on the folder and Emby now does not like it.  If you can correct it with new folder.

We aren't filtering on hidden status so in theory it shouldn't matter if they are marked hidden or not. Maybe it's best to just move to the new folder.

They are grayed out, not marked. That's the problem. Are you saying I have to create all new folders for every movie and tv show I have?

Have you even looked at my link?  It explains that the hidden check box being greyed means that the folder has the "system" attribute set (which could have other effects, of course), and then gives the procedure for unsetting it.  The fact that the query involved a checked hidden setting is neither here nor there.

Do what's needed to clear the system attribute, and then see if the folder behaves as you'd expect.

I missed this part, and yes that could explain things.

But would that be a change in .NET as 4.7.14.0 does not have the issue 4.8.8.0 does.  Or another change between versions?  But in the end OP appears to possibly have found the underlying issue.

BTW, the article explains the danger of doing this at the root folder, but doesn't then suggest doing it where it's needed - so be careful!

Yes we have our file system queries set to ignore system files. That is handled differently from 4.7. I thought in 4.7 we were still filtering those out, just in a different way.

Other google posts suggests possible ownership issues also.  Since System appears to have possibly interfered with ownership/attributes.

I was able to reset all my folders using this code. I used Powershell as Admin. It worked like a charm. If folders turn black just reset the computer.

function Reset-FolderAttributes {
    param (
        [string]$Path
    )

    # Get all directories in the specified path
    $directories = Get-ChildItem -Path $Path -Recurse -Directory

    # Add the root path to the list of directories
    $directories += Get-Item -Path $Path

    foreach ($directory in $directories) {
        # Remove the hidden and system attributes, then set to normal
        attrib -h -s -r "$($directory.FullName)" /D /S
        attrib +a "$($directory.FullName)" /D /S

        Write-Output "Reset attributes for: $($directory.FullName)"
    }
}

# Specify the drive or folder path to reset attributes
$drivePath = "Put Drive or Folder Path Here"

# Call the function to reset attributes
Reset-FolderAttributes -Path $drivePath
