gid 0 Posted January 6, 2024 Posted January 6, 2024 After upgrading to a larger TV (LG), I see that it consistently fails to connect to the server, a Windows 10 PC on the same LAN. The only way out is to restart the server, or to disconnect/reconnect the Ethernet cable. Server and client versions are fully up-to-date. Any clues?
Luke 42079 Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 HI there, what exactly happens when you try to connect?
gid 0 Posted January 7, 2024 Author Posted January 7, 2024 It tries for about 10sec and then times out.
Luke 42079 Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 Can you try doing a new server connection manually by entering the server ip address?

gid 0 Posted January 9, 2024 Author Posted January 9, 2024 Yes, I later connected using it, after - of course - a restart.

gid 0 Posted January 10, 2024 Author Posted January 10, 2024 The IP is fixed and shown correctly. This cannot possibly be a "wrong IP" problem, since, as I've written, after a cable dis-re-connect, or an Emby server restart, the same connection, with the same IP, suddenly works.

If your IP is truly fixed then this may not be your problem but the procedure you just described does not rule it out. If the IP were being doled out by DHCP it would be possible that it would be re-assigned in either of those situations and it could just happen to get re-assigned to what you expect. May not be what is happening but it is possible.
gid 0 Posted January 11, 2024 Author Posted January 11, 2024 My IP is fixed. I have fixed it exactly for Emby 's sake. If it were not fixed but got re-asssigned every time, again we'd have a case where the IP would not be the reason of the failure.
Neminem 1519 Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 It sounds like your NIC is in sleep mode. Try turning that off. Untick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
gid 0 Posted January 11, 2024 Author Posted January 11, 2024 I did it and it didn't help. It could not have helped because this is my main PC, when I switch the TV on it's only to move from the PC to the TV. The PC is continuously active and connected to the internet, and the network card never gets a rest.
visproduction 315 Posted January 12, 2024 Posted January 12, 2024 My guess it's the LG TV. Have a look at these pages: https://tvnoob.com/no-internet-via-ethernet-cable-on-lg-tv/#google_vignette https://www.lg.com/us/support/help-library/lg-tv-how-to-setup-a-wired-internet-connection--20153255459902
gid 0 Posted January 13, 2024 Author Posted January 13, 2024 What you suggest does not apply to me. When the Emby client fails to connect, the TV is perfectly capable of connecting to the internet, I have tested it with an Internet radio app. It's only Emby that fails to connect.
Luke 42079 Posted January 15, 2024 Posted January 15, 2024 @gidI would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter: Connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks !
gid 0 Posted January 20, 2024 Author Posted January 20, 2024 Nothing in that doc works. How could it work? I don't have a case where I can't connect. I have a case where I can't connect, and after a restart, I can.
pwhodges 2012 Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 Since one of the methods you said got it back was to disconnect the network cable, it's pretty clear that the issue is at the network level, not in Emby. I'd be trying to check all the network settings (including the ones you know are right, like the network mask). Paul
gid 0 Posted January 20, 2024 Author Posted January 20, 2024 And when I apply the other method, the Emby restart, then the explanation suddenly changes, I suppose?
pwhodges 2012 Posted January 20, 2024 Posted January 20, 2024 I didn't realise that "restart the server" referred to Emby - it was not explicit. But I'm not sure that changes anything, because Emby's connection with the network is affected by the network as well as itself. Paul
Luke 42079 Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 @gidhave you figured out connecting from your TV to your server?
gid 0 Posted January 30, 2024 Author Posted January 30, 2024 No but recently the situation has improved a little bit on its own over the past 3-4 days: Now it fails to connect, takes me to the screen where I try again or define a new server, and if I try again, it succeeds. So no need to restart anything or dis/reconnect any cables. Not good, but better than before.

In other words, the app saves the server ip address, then in between usages at some point it changes. Then you start the Emby Samsung app and it can no longer connect and needs to be configured again. Can you assign a static ip address for your server machine in your router's settings?
gid 0 Posted February 1, 2024 Author Posted February 1, 2024 My network address is already statically assigned and never changes.
tedfroop21 86 Posted February 1, 2024 Posted February 1, 2024 Does your router offer the option to reserve an IP address for your server? It is possible it is not being added to the routing table because its not DHCP. Kind of rare but if its an ISP supplied router you never know what corners were cut....
