I would very much welcome that. I would then be prepared to use the corresponding beta versions again. And if this were to be simplified step by step for the user, many more users would use it. Of course, this should also be better advertised. And that would also be an incentive to attract Plex users to Kodi.
Audiomixer 374 Posted September 7, 2024 Posted September 7, 2024 Kodi can use NFS. This works so well. Any reason emby couldn’t use this?

Let's leave the church in the village. If they could build it in on the side, ok, but to be honest - I don't think the average user would bother with NFS. Personally, I would be very happy if they could simply install direct path playback with SMB in the clients. Edited September 7, 2024 by Teddyknuddel
voodoo5_6k 29 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Hi, Thanks for updating the skin, @Teddyknuddel I've been setting up an AM6B Plus with CoreELEC (21.1.1 cpm build) for testing. Together with the next gen add-on, this seems to work good with my emby server. One question though. I haven't used Kodi in along time, so this might not actually be a skin question but a Kodi limitation. Is there a way to have options for video version, audio and subtitle selection on the actual video information page (like one can do in emby's clients), before starting playback? Thanks! 1

Unfortunately not, there may be certain skins that can display this, but unfortunately not with this one. I wouldn't know how to implement this either. Adapting this skin to 4K (or even 2K) was enough of a challenge. But everything else is beyond my knowledge. I once asked @rbjtech to somehow integrate this information into the video description with MediaInfo. Unfortunately that got lost. Edited September 9, 2024 by Teddyknuddel 1
voodoo5_6k 29 Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Thank you anyhow! I'll add the question to the Embuary support thread.

Other than a metadata refresh, there is no way to remove it - which is not a good position to be in if the user accidently selects this item - as on emby clients, this would then show up twice. For shows - I actually did add it as a Tagline (because this metadata is not used for TV shows) at show level (see below as an example). The latest version already has this functionality (DLL) - from memory, it just takes the details of S1:E1 I'll see what I can do re prefixing - but I need to setup a new instance as I would not want that prefixed to all my descriptions. btw, would you want it looking like below - with new lines etc or just prefix it as text, then start the episode description? (not sure how much screen space Kodi has for the description..) Edited September 9, 2024 by rbjtech

(not sure how much screen space Kodi has for the description..) The text behaves similarly in Kodi as in Emby (at least in the Embuary skin), in other skins similarly, in some skins the text scrolls itself. In any case, there would be plenty of space. You could also completely write out Dolby Vision Profile 7.6 and so on, because there would be significantly more space. Like this, for example: Video: 4K - Dolby Vision Proile 7.6 - HDR10 [53,5 Mbits/s] Audio: Dolby TrueHD Atmos 7.1[4.723 kbits/s] Movie/Episode description, blablablablabla..... In any case, with this media information in the movie/episode description, you would have much more freedom in terms of space. However, the slogan is used rather less in Kodi. But I could be wrong, because I have never really paid attention to it. 1

(not sure how much screen space Kodi has for the description..) Just browsed through the MediaInfo thread and wiki. Interesting tool, quite a feat However, the thread is relatively long already. From what I gathered until now (still many pages left to read), the plugin's main purpose is editing metadata within the actual *.mkv, for use cases beyond mine (as far as I understood this). Also, all my data is read-only to emby. So, not sure if that plugin would be suitable to address this issue. My question was whether it's possible to have access to the pre-playback media selection options on Kodi as, for instance, in emby's Android client, which I use on the Shield Pro. This is not so much about displaying meta data, but enabling access to functionality (i.e., selecting video version, or audio stream, subtitles, before actually starting playback). I'd assume this would need to be addressed on the client side (as it works in "regular" clients, the interface for this therefore exists)? So, like Kodi settings, or skin or emby for Kodi next gen etc.?
Teddyknuddel 136 Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 (edited) @voodoo5_6k I think this is more of a Kodi story than Emby itself. You might have to ask in the appropriate Kodi forum. Maybe there is an addon for it. If so, I would be happy to hear about it. Edited September 9, 2024 by Teddyknuddel

andy22 2 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Installed the updated version from the second page on omega. some layout issues on the 2k version: "Embuary_Poster_View_51.xml" needs "height" changed to 1440 or the bottom row is always invisible/off-screen. "Embuary_Wide_View_50.xml" needs "height" changed to 1440 and "width" to 2690 or right column is cut-off 1 1
voodoo5_6k 29 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 Just noticed the same thing. Last row in e.g. poster view is off-screen and cannot be seen. The active selection is always offscreen once you have scrolled over the first set of rows.

FrostByte 5392 Posted September 25, 2024 Posted September 25, 2024 @ebrnever replied. So, I'm guessing he's not wanting to make a special (non-store) version with DFA enabled for all versions of Android

So, I'm guessing he's not wanting to make a special (non-store) version with DFA enabled for all versions of Android It was to be expected. But the team will have a look around when they take ATV out completely. At some point, direct file playback will only be possible with Kodi. For me, it's been a night and day difference since I finally got my Shield to allow direct file playback via SMB with Emby. Buttery smooth playback of any video, no matter how big it is. And without any major hardware requirements. That's exactly how it has to work. And Emby doesn't want to expand that? Who is this @ebr that he thinks he can decide what is enough for me and what is not? If there's one thing I can't stand, it's paternalism! When I want to be forced from a tried and tested, direct and simple method that works very well into something that will never really run smoothly. Why don't you build on what works? Why don't you first fix the faults that some people have been criticising for years?
jluce50 122 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 Just installed the 2k version on a fresh Kodi 21.1 install. Everything looks great except for the playback info at the bottom of the screen. The numbers on both sides of the progress bar are cut off and there may be some info missing (though I can't look at the old Embruary skin to confirm). Any chance of this getting fixed? 1
