Rob McChesney 1 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 I have the firewalls off on both machines and am unable to connect to my pc with the emby server. Any Ideas?
GrimReaper 4740 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Connect how, local or remote? What server version? Which client app? Have you gone through the connection troubleshooter? https://emby.media/support/articles/Connectivity.html How to Report a Problem
Rob McChesney 1 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 Trying to connect locally, Server ver. 4.7.14.0, Web client within my local network. I try running through the connection troubleshooter now...
Luke 42079 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 Hi there, what exactly happens when you try to connect? What Emby app are you trying to connect from?
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 18, 2023 Posted October 18, 2023 If they are Windows machines, is the networking set to "Private" - because "Public" won't hack it... Paul
Rob McChesney 1 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 On my local network, trying to connect from my laptop via wifi to my emby server which is connected directly to the router. Been working flawlessly until the most recent w10, and browser updates. All machines are set to Private.

Rob McChesney 1 Posted October 18, 2023 Author Posted October 18, 2023 After opening the 8096 port on the server, I was able to connect by using the IP: http://192.168.86.XX:8096/web/index.html#!/home But not from the main Emby Web interface (google chrome browser Version 118.0.5993.89https://emby.media/connect.html This the Error I Get: We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again.

Rob McChesney 1 Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 Thanks for that Steveo369, It does look to be a Chrome browser issue. FireFox works fine. For now I'll just bookmark my IP.

Can confirm that changing to http instead of https fixed it. @Luke is there is a fix coming, or is this working as intended on Chrome (or maybe I need to remove some extensions). :)

These are the rules of the browser. The best we can do is provide you with that information so that you can make the right choice. But Chrome is working on a new permissions api where we'll be able to let you grant permission to access the http url, so once they have that ready we should be able to start using that.
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 23, 2023 Posted October 23, 2023 (mini rant:) Chrome is fast becoming unusable, and in such a way that users are liable to blame the websites rather than the browser. I advise people to stay away from it. Paul

Paul I can agree, at least when Firefox made the change to strict https they were kind enough to explain what changed, explain options, and whitelists for http, etc.
Winnergirl5555 0 Posted November 5, 2024 Posted November 5, 2024 I brought a paid version of emby. It’s not working. I’m new to emby it’s my first time. I have iPhone 11.

You need to provide a LOT more detail before anyone can help you and, probably, you need to read the documentation including the "Quick start guide" for Emby to understand how it works. Also the iPhone is a client and you must have an Emby server running to use most of Emby's features. Edited November 6, 2024 by Gilgamesh_48 1

It has no access to any media until you provide it with details of the server you have set up or one that a friend has given you access to. Emby themselves do not provide media. Paul

You do NOT "get" a server as Emby provides no content. Rather you build one and place your content where it needs to be for the server to see it. See the "Quick start guide" @Neminemlinked in his post above this one. Also if you actually read the rest of Emby's documentation then most everything gets explained. Just go to https://emby.media/ and read what is there and you might understand what Emby actually does and does not do. Emby is a client server system and you provide both the server and the client.
