Tekken009 4 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 (edited) Hello I have read through some issues regarding new router, which i am also haggling a bit with. I am on private network, my firewall seems to be set up correctly, i am therefore thinking it could be a routing issue as this is the newly installed component. It is a Zyxel EX3300-T0. Does any have a clue as to what i am going to do? Thank you very much for all help. Edited October 6, 2023 by Tekken009

pwhodges 2012 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 How about telling us what your actual problem is, or what you are trying to do that fails (it's also useful to know what does work)... Paul
Tekken009 4 Posted October 6, 2023 Author Posted October 6, 2023 Of course I am not able to logon outside my network.

rbjtech 5284 Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 I think the OP just wants to know what to put in the fields on the port forward ? Service name = Emby, All 4 fields regarding Port = 8096, Ip Address = your emby local Ip Address, Activate the rule. if your emby server has firewalls on it - then you may need to create f/w rules for those - if Windows, ensure it is has 'Private' networking as opposed to 'Public'. Let us know how you get on but try and use the guides linked above - that's what they are for .
Tekken009 4 Posted October 11, 2023 Author Posted October 11, 2023 First of all, thanks for all help, I believe it is a port forward issue to I have these numbers in my rule + my IP address. I can see, that the router has a firewall as well, maybe the issue is with this?
Tekken009 4 Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 Does anyone offer remote desktop help in here?

When you say "my IP address", do you mean your WAN address, or the local address of the computer running Emby? It should be the second (incidentally, as that is internal to your network, there's no need to hide it here). Have you checked for the possibility that your ISP uses cgNAT - if they do then there is no straightforward way to get around it. Ways to check: Method 1: At a command prompt type "tracert 8.8.8.8". If any line after the first contains an address in the following ranges, you are behind cgNAT: 192.168.x.x 10.x.x.x 172.16.x.x through 172.31.x.x 100.64.x.x through 100.127.x.x Method 2: Log into your router and check its WAN / external address; where to find it depends on your router. If this address is different from the one given by calling https://whatismyipaddress.com/, you are behind cgNAT. Paul
Tekken009 4 Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 It is my LAN ip and not WAN. I did the tracert 8.8.8.8 and got following: It does not seem as i am behind cgNAT?

You will not be able to easily share your emby instance - as it has no 'public' IP address.
rbjtech 5284 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 (edited) @Luke Is a CGNAT test something you can put into Emby ? If the user then selects to enable remote access - it could warn them that this is not possible without a 3rd party solution to get around the ISP limitations ? edit I've raised this as an FR https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/122255-cgnat-built-in-test-when-enabling-remote-access/ Edited October 12, 2023 by rbjtech Added FR comment

pwhodges 2012 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 If they are prepared to offer it, they will probably charge an additional subscription for it, though. Paul
Tekken009 4 Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 Thanks for the advice Paul, much appreciated. I just got a public IP, so all good on that point. Now, can one of you guide me a bit towards the next step(s)?
pwhodges 2012 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 Well done getting the IP! And you've already got the handle on the port forwarding, which should work now. You need to check that Emby is now picking up your new WAN IP and showing it on the dashboard, and that you have enabled remote access on the Network settings page. Then it should just work™. These steps are summarised at: https://emby.media/support/articles/Remote-Setup.html Once you've got that going OK, you might want to consider https security (as a degree of privacy, mainly. There are plenty of threads about that in the forum. Paul 1
rbjtech 5284 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) You almost certainly have to reset your router to pick up the new public IP. Then repeat the tracert test above - check you don't have a 10.x.x.x address before you proceed to the next stage - but as Paul says, it may just work by using the public IP to connect as the forwarding rule does not change. Tekken009 4 Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 When i look at Emby dashboard, it has the new IP (after a restart og the pc). So far so good. But i still can not access the server remotely. This is my new tracert: Line 8-10 has changed..? when i look at this address, i have a new IP https://www.whatsmyip.org/

Tekken009 4 Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 Okay, so are we talking hard reset og just power off and power on?

Off and on again - but please liaise with your ISP - they will be able to advise when the change has been made at their end. You may need to wait. You may need to do something on the router - but they should advise you of this. As above - if the 10.x.x.x has been replaced with something else on line 2 - then you are likely on a real public IP - and it should work from that point onwards. Edited October 13, 2023 by rbjtech 1
Tekken009 4 Posted October 13, 2023 Author Posted October 13, 2023 Just did a hard reset, still the same with the tracert promt. I will wait and see. Thanks for all your help so far, i will update when i see something new, hoping other people will benefit Have a good weekend all 1 1
Tekken009 4 Posted October 22, 2023 Author Posted October 22, 2023 (edited) So, just to update, if any is seeing the same issue. It did indeed work getting the Public IP from my service provider and the server is up and running again. The users had some difficulties getting back onto the server, it was manageable though.
