MrMackey 35 Posted May 14, 2023 Posted May 14, 2023 @rbjtechAhh ok got it. I have never tried that before.
kkhan 16 Posted May 14, 2023 Author Posted May 14, 2023 The following works The following also works However, to get true portability, I want to use the following ... ... but this does not resolve I can ping Flower from within the emby container and from external devices but emby itself refuses to resolve the Flower hostname. 1

kkhan 16 Posted May 14, 2023 Author Posted May 14, 2023 @luke. Your recommendation is sound but I need to keep my emby main server (on UNRAID) and my emby backup server (on Windows Server) in sync and I cannot do that effectively unless I use UNC pathnames because then emby remains portable and the mirroring of the backup to the main can be automated. Since 2018 I have been using this architecture very effectively (I sync on a daily basis both the emby install and media libraries from the main server to the backup) so that if the main server needs to go offline (for maintenance or whatever), I can switch at moments notice to the backup server and there is virtually no interruption in service. I have become unstuck now as for the first time, my main emby server is not a windows machine Portability has also helped in migrating between the 3 hardware platform upgrades since 2017; it becomes trivial because it is simply a matter of copying the entire emby appdata folder without any changes from one machine to the next. 1
kkhan 16 Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 Have discovered a workaround to the issue. When adding a library, in the folder path dialogue box: Typing \\localservername\music (for example) does not resolve servername (though as stated above \\localhost\music does) However, by first scrolling to the bottom of the available folders/shares and selecting Network, brings up smb://localservername. Selecting this does resolves to the local host! However, selecting media shares this way adds the path smb://localservername/music which is, I believe, not portable between linux and windows. But manually entering \\localserver\music now works correctly and is resolved. 2

jiggity 35 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 @kkhan Have you tried setting custom network addresses for the docker containers in Unraid? In the docker edit use the network type drop down go to custom br0 assign a custom IP to the docker that will fall within your LAN static range if you need to assign a specific DNS then in extra parameters use "--dns *.*.*.*" without the quotes and replace the *.*.*.* with your actual required DNS That should allow for a netbios connection to the docker without needing to use an IP/Name config Good luck if you are still having issues
