As777 27 Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 I have an issue with the Android mobile app (3.2.92) on my Sony Android TV. A few movies I have are not able to resume playback and it is not possible to seek once the video is started. The video starts fine with no problems. I have tested other devices and these force transcoding (mobile phone, web ui) and the video can be resumed without issue. I can also seek without issue. Some of the movies I have are Dolby Vision/HDR hyrbids and I am wondering if this a problem. I can play these videos fine in Kodi over SMB, so should be able to rule out network and server issues. Either the problem is with Emby Server or with the Android Exo player. Please let me know how I can troubleshoot and provide further information or which log files i should upload. 1
As777 27 Posted February 22, 2023 Author Posted February 22, 2023 Just an update ...I ran an ffmpeg copy on a problematic mkv movie and it seemed to fix whatever was causing the issue. I haven't had time to test more yet but i noticed it only copied out the main audio channel and not the other channels so it's not quite the same movie container as it was. This is still a bit odd though because it's only the Android TV player when streaming that cannot play the original file. 1

I am going to do some more experiments with remux today when I get some time. 1
Luke 42083 Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Hi. Can you try sideloading our standard android app on the same device and see how that compares? https://emby.media/emby-for-android.html Thanks.
As777 27 Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 This is the standard app, not AndroidTV app. Using the latest version and latest beta of server as of today.
As777 27 Posted February 24, 2023 Author Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) Ok here's the result of my tests : -- edit - i have really no idea what's going on. After restarting the tv the Emby mobile is now displaying the correct DV picture information although still unable to seek/resume. Sony Android 9 - Emby Android TV - Sometimes video seeks/resumes correctly but not all the time. Dolby Vision picture presets are showing in the Sony menu Sony Android 9- Emby Mobile sideloaded - Video doesnt resume/seek. Dolby Vision picture presets not showing. Google TV dongle - Emby Android TV - Sometimes video seeks/resumes correctly. Dolby Vision picture presets are showing in the Sony menu Google TV dongle - Emby Mobile sideloaded - Video doesnt resume/seek. Dolby Vision picture presets not showing. 1. The Mobile Emby app does not forward the Dolby Vision meta data correctly when playing the video. 2. The Android TV app is handling the Dolby Vision meta data correctly 3. Resume/Seek still seems to be an issue with both apps. 4. Using an external player like VLC will resume/seek correctly but the Dolby Vision meta data is not sent correctly to the TV although the picture looks ok and is not green. Luke 42083 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 @askog666 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
As777 27 Posted March 24, 2023 Author Posted March 24, 2023 You can close this thread. I've since moved on to Nvidia shield and don't have the problem anymore. I think it's a bug with Android 9 exo player and loading the dolby vision profile with certain mkv encodes.
