denz 501 Posted March 29, 2024 Posted March 29, 2024 This is only thing that keeps me still checking Emby to see when I can start testing and offer feedback.I am now using Channels and it’s dream to use. 2 1

Stay tuned in the coming months for more information. Currently our focus right now is continued support of the new 4.8 server release, as well as the new Windows app that is imminent. Following that we will be focused on a short 4.9 release to try break away from our history of long releases. Once we get through that, then you can expect things to speed up related to this. Thanks guys. @luke, what's the latest update on this? It's been a few months since your response above, 4.8 has been getting the support it needs and 4.9 has received more than a few updates. To hold up this completed feature just because a new Windows app is taking forever doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Thanks for any info you can give. 5
asmit238 3 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 An open beta to people who have been waiting patiently would be excellent.
pwhodges 2012 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 We've already been told it will come in the next beta after 4.9, and that the 4.9 beta cycle is intended not to be so long. Paul
daldana 122 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 @pwhodges, Can you please show me in the quoted message from @luke where it says it will be in the next beta after 4.9? Also, please define "not to be so long"? It's been 3 months since luke posted that message.

daldana 122 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 Never says anything about a new beta, so I don't know what your point is. New features are added to existing betas all the time here, so it could be added to any 4.9 releases.

"Not so long" - well, the last beta was, as far as I can remember when it started, over 18 months. I'm not expecting this beta to end before late summer, then a new beta in the autumn, etc, etc. Paul
softworkz 5066 Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 It's not about and not depending on the server. The new Windows app is ready for beta, and that's - well, how should I say that - that's the point in the timeline where we are standing. 2

Sammy 790 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 (edited) Chiming in.. I remember devoting a lot of time and effort (not nearly as much as @softworkzI suppose) to the TVNext project several years ago now. It'd be nice to see it implemented but now I'm not even using physical tuners (using TVE through Channels DVR since Spectrum priced me out and would not renew the Promo I was on for a very long time making using Prime Tuners competitive to YTTV or Hulu LiveTV). So if something happens, it'd be nice to have TVEverywhere implemented which was a feature request of mine in July of 2019. Edited June 13, 2024 by Sammy
Sammy 790 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 The talk above about having to pay lifetime again for the 5.x server brings to mind, I personally sent $10 to @ebrvia PayPal in 2013 or something for what was then MediaBrowser 3 for a lifetime subscription. I've been lifetime ever since but since I like what's going on with Emby I chose to also subscribe at $5/month to support their efforts and would not be opposed to ponying up again or just staying on the monthly.
denz 501 Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I paid life subscription long time and I am more than willing to pay for monthly subscription. if they implemented fast channel charges I would without hesitation pay again for life time subscription. However what I am not happy is that tv guide still doesn’t work properly softworkz has got it working properly but his updates haven’t gone through and the slow channel changes is painful so I am using channels dvr now. So to me those two things are major and I don’t want to pay more to support beta products. I like anyone else want emby to be successful but to me thise teo things are key 1
denz 501 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Any news are we getting near the testing stage that we all are eagerly awaiting. 2

pwhodges 2012 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 We have been told that it is scheduled to go into the next beta after 4.9. This is not ridiculous (well, the delay getting that commitment was, I guess); right now getting beta 4.9 wrapped up is the target (and I guess it's fairly close). Paul
daldana 122 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 What is ridiculous is having a completed project that will greatly enhance a user's experience (I'm assuming here) being held up by a completely unrelated release! As much as you'd like to be the apologist @pwhodges, the reason for the holdup doesn't make sense. 2
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 (edited) How much experience have you of programming complex systems? The fact that there is an old working beta doesn't mean that it is now trivial to incorporate it into the current system which has had many developments in the mean time. I certainly am not wanting to be an apologist for why it took so long for Emby to commit to going ahead with this; but now there is a road-map, wailing about it will not help anyone. If the plan is allowed to slip again, I shall be as vociferous as anyone in complaining about it. Paul Edited September 3, 2024 by pwhodges 3
Sammy 790 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 As Spectrum priced me out I switched to YTTV for linear TV and since Spectrum no longer offers a CableCARD solution I'm now done with the HDHomeRun Primes I've been using since 2011 and don't know if this will even help me at this point. Good run with the Prime, but time to move on. I was able to go to YTTV and up my internet speed plus incorporate ChannelsDVR for a "tuner" in Emby for slightly less than what Spectrum was charging me before my promo expired in June. I just might put up my antenna again and start using my HDHomeRun Quattros but then ATSC 3.0 will come along and want a monthly fee to use an ATSC 3.0 tuner which I'll have to purchase too. Then they'll want more money for DRM content.
daldana 122 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 I thought the roadmap was to incorporate the project into a public beta release after it was through the private beta, is that not correct? And the fact that the project has been completed and made it through the private beta testing as part of the existing complex system, my experience with programming in those systems is a moot point and referring to my experience in these systems is irrelevant. But if you must know, as many of the older members of this forum, I have been programming systems since the punch card days and have stayed current through multiple languages.
pwhodges 2012 Posted September 3, 2024 Posted September 3, 2024 Some months ago, the devs, who had for some reason not been certain of the value of this development and thus had not scheduled its addition to the main beta, agreed publicly to incorporate it into the beta following the one they had just started (which was 4.9, the current one). Given the length of your experience (nearer to mine than most around here) you should be aware that just saying "let's add it" is too simplistic. Anyway, it is what it is, and there is good reason to be hoping for a beta including it within this year. Paul

Off topic but I had to smile seeing this! Because me too, I could still use a manual card punch if I had to Those were the days when you sent the cards off in a box to be run ovenight, and got your compilation back in the morning - 1 compile a day… OK Everyone you can go back to complaining about Emby now!
