HEVC MKV Playback Issues

I am unable to play HEVC encoded MKV files on the PS4. It is very similar but not identical to the issue described here:

The video attempts to load and I see a loading/buffering spinning circle. I have to close the browser window to get out and log back in to Emby. I let it run for at least five minutes once.
