trumpy81 1 Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 (edited) GDay All, I downloaded the Emby Theatre app for RPi from here: https://emby.media/emby-theater-rpi.html I wrote the img file to MicroSD plugged it into my RPi 3b and all is running well, I even managed to connect to my friends Emby server in the US and I am able to log into my two Emby servers running on my two Synology NAS. So far so good ... lol I then tried downloading a file from my friends server and I was able to save it to the desktop folder on my RPi (couldn't save to any other device), however, I am unable to SSH into the RPi or log into Debian on the RPi in order to retrieve the file I downloaded. If anyone knows how to log into Debian on the RPi or the username/password etc. for SSH, I would appreciate the help, thanks. Also, if anyone can help getting the Remote Control to work with Emby Theatre, I would appreciate that also. I am using a cheap Remote from Ebay ( https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/272097775295?hash=item3f5a4a8ebf:g:JXgAAOSwFfZetWPs ) Regards Andy M Edited May 20, 2022 by trumpy81

Hello, You'll need to check and see if SSH is enabled within the configuration. Usually, SSH is enabled by default, but there have been installations where it isn't enabled by default; security reasons. And, most won't allow you to log into the system using ROOT by default; another account needs to be created so you can SSH into the system then through the use of SUDO, do what you need to do. Doing a quick search, I came up with these two items you can run to see if SSH is running $ sudo service ssh status $ ssh localhost This should help you in determining if SSH is up and running. 1
trumpy81 1 Posted May 22, 2022 Author Posted May 22, 2022 Thanks for the reply I am unable to connect at all via SSH, the connection is refused, so I guess SSH is not enabled in Debian on the RPi. That leads to the question, how do I get into Debian on the RPi after exiting Emby Theatre? If I can log into Debian, then I can probably enable SSH etc., but I do not know the default username & password for Debian. I discovered that the file I downloaded was not actually saved to the RPi, even though I sat and watched it going through the motions. After rebooting the RPi, the file was not on the desktop where I had saved it, so this may be in vain I can download etc. by connecting to my friends server via my PC/Browser, so not all is lost, but it would be nice if I didn't have to switch platforms ... lol

Mickroz 2 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 If anyone knows this, im trying to achieve the same. Installed the rpi image, and tried with pi:raspberry (default pi os login) but didn't work.
TMCsw 249 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Does this help? https://tutorials-raspberrypi.com/raspberry-pi-default-login-password/
Mickroz 2 Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 Not really, dont know if the rpi image is set with a default login, guess @Lukecould tell that? Will try to see if my parents can exit to cli to see if they can login there with those passwords.
TMCsw 249 Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 It's unlikely anyone form emby or other people can know what username/password your OS was setup to use if you can't find it on your own then you can try one or more ways as described here https://raspberrytips.com/forgot-raspberry-pi-password/ or other sites. Otherwise you may have to start from scratch (think of it as a learning experience).
Mickroz 2 Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 There is no setup of a password on the dedicated rpi image, it only lets you setup wifi if its not finding a network connection. Its this image at the bottom: https://emby.media/emby-theater-rpi.html So if they didn't setup a user:pass in the image itself, then i guess you cannot login with ssh either, and you probably will have to ctrl + c out of emby theater and login to the shell with pi:raspberry, which contradicts with the link you posted And since i have no physical access, just have to wait then.
