cover images disappear occasionally

Hi,

the example down below: "Forever Young" Cover is gone...

 

it should look like this (the cover picture was uploaded manually):

 

What causes this behaviour that the covers disappear from time to time?

That is showing as a folder (top left icon on poster).

What does the folder structure look like for this movie?

there is the folder "Forever Young" and within this folder there are three files:

20.09.2021  12:32     3.478.440.068 01_Forever_Young.mkv
18.09.2021  14:40       384.065.099 02_Dehnbungen..mkv
18.09.2021  14:40       131.088.335 03_Lauftechnik.mkv

that's it.

it looks like this within emby which is totally fine:

What's the content type for this library?
If this is a movie library type that's why it's doing this.  You want each movie to be in it's own folder appropriately named.

mixed content-type

 

I don't want that once I upload a specific image for the cover that this image get lost....otherwise I wouldn't have uploaded an image

If it's a mixed content type and didn't show an image I think it's because you didn't have a folder image in place.

If you watch the folder on disk and then add a new image for that folder did it create a folder.ext file on disc (assuming you have the library set to store images with media)?

no it's not set:

but maybe it's the setting "generate video preview images" is set to "as planned task and when new media is added" <-- but why is an existing image changed? whenever there is an image manually added this should be automatically be locked till I tell emby please exchange everything. At least this behavor would be expected from me.

or is this related as follow up bug because of a naming issue? because it might be that this appears only when the media is shown as directory-style. nevertheless it seems to me unlogical when I can change the cover for this directory and later on this uploaded image is going to be destroyed by an automatic... (why am I allowed to change the image then?)

Well you need to keep in mind what you showed in your picture wasn't a movie/media but a folder.  Inside the folder you have media.

well, the question is why is the image of the folder deleted by an automatic?

Sorry but you have to be more specific, what image is in the folder?  Per your folder content Emby will take the image of the first media in the folder as you already seen.

Or are you trying to assign images but not have them in the Folder?

there is no image in the folder at all. I edit the image via menu of the emby client:

there you can upload the image.

once done it is shown correctly as expected. But after a while...the image is gone and replaced with an image which is grabbed from within I guess the first video file. which isn't wanted at all.

So image is not being saved to the folder.

Because these are Folders not actually media,  I will have to look but believe there are other topics on this as you have to have the image in the Folder for it to keep the Folder image, otherwise the inherit first item image takes over.   @Luke

and again...some covers disappeared.

in my opinion this is a bug or tell me please what do I have to do that the cover image stays as it was uploaded (but to be clear...once an image is uploaded manually, it should never ever be updated from an automatic unless I tell the system it should do so...):

Can you assign a image to a Folder that does not reside in said folder?  Emby will always inherit first item image when not image is in said folder, correct?

Have not found previous topic but eventually \metadata\library\xx\xxxxxxxxxxxxxx assigned images be lost for Folders.

This appears to be resolved in 4.7.0.14.  Refreshing library does not remove assigned folder image (not in folder) assigned to folder in my tests.
