LukeSkyscraper 1 Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Hello, Just wondering about sharing media, via share menu in the web interface. I'm testing from a Windows PC, in Chrome, and 'Copy Link' doesn't actually give me a usable link - in my case I just get something like https://emby.my.tld/emby (actual domain name is different). This obviously isn't useful for sharing links to media. Does anyone know if this is a bug, or if I don't have something set up correctly on my Emby server? Also, is there a way to add other apps or sharing methods to this menu, or does it just go by whatever apps are installed / registered on the device your using? PS - Love the software overall! I'm glad there is something around like this, that can run standalone without fundamentally tying itself into a cloud service. Keep up the good work.
Abobader 3469 Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Hello LukeSkyscraper, ** This is an auto reply ** Please wait for someone from staff support or our members to reply to you. It's recommended to provide more info, as it explain in this thread: Thank you. Emby Team
Luke 42083 Posted August 1, 2021 Posted August 1, 2021 Hi, yes, currently it just links you to your web app with a description of what you were sharing. Not extremely useful I know, although for photos I believe on supported platforms we attach the photo directly. But I'd have to review that. Quote Also, is there a way to add other apps or sharing methods to this menu, or does it just go by whatever apps are installed / registered on the device your using? The share menu you're seeing is a browser or system level share menu, so you'd have to install apps or browser addons that support being a share target.
MBSki 1114 Posted August 2, 2021 Posted August 2, 2021 @LukeSkyscraper The sharing system needs a lot of work IMO, which is why I posted this feature request awhile ago. Overhaul Share Function in Emby - Feature Requests - Emby Community. Unfortunately, it's only received 1 like so I guess most people like how sharing works in Emby. I can't use it to do what I need to though so I'm still stuck using Plex to fill the gaps.
LukeSkyscraper 1 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 @mbarylskiNow it has 3 likes @LukeAny plans to update the share feature? Just need a way to get a link to the video currently being watched. If not, then how would you recommend I / my end users document the media they are watching, for future reference? I just installed the Playback Reporting plugin, but it doesn't even log any path or link to the media being played. 1
Carlo 4561 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Hi, anything wrong with using Emby's built in watch feature that tracks what you have and haven't watched?
LukeSkyscraper 1 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 @cayars I don't know much about the watch feature. Is there a page where i can see a list of all the media thats been watched?
Carlo 4561 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 No, but Emby Server tracks what has been watched and not watched. When you look at your movies you will see a checkmark for anything watched. You will see a circle with episode counts unwatched for tv shows.
LukeSkyscraper 1 Posted August 13, 2021 Author Posted August 13, 2021 @cayarsOk, so the data is there. is watched status / video path or link info available via the API?
Carlo 4561 Posted August 14, 2021 Posted August 14, 2021 Yes, and this can be accessed as well and used in a plug such as the Trakt plugin.
Maarten 4 Posted August 15, 2023 Posted August 15, 2023 I have iOS app and made a iOS shortcut. That will extract the item id from the share option. Than it will do magic with the Emby api and create a emby://xxxxxxxx link to the item. I can extract/share the title and description. And send that over to WhatsApp or whatever. it is not fancy, so no image/poster is shared. But it is much better. Now i can send my users links that will open the emby app on the right place.
