Yes I have been on to my router support team and been through all this. They could not understand it but suggested setting up a port trigger rather than a port forward. And guess what? With a port trigger the WAN port becomes visible! So now I can access remotely, or at least using the WAN IP in my local browser. Whether it works for my sone who is genuinely off-network, remains to be seen after school, later. Thanks for your suggestions It turns out it was a router problem. I have left it with linksys support to see why a port forward would not open the port.

Excellent. Thanks for clarifying on the why so I can put it to rest. Good to know its not an issue with my setup. For kicks, I installed the OpenVPN client on my phone yesterday so I can always appear "local", its been flawless since. When the network switch occurs the VPN connection refreshes almost instantly, it must be fast enough to where the server doesn't have to spend the time doing the WAN / LAN validation. Makes sense according to your comments. Would it be feasible to offer the server admin the option to disable validating LAN /WAN in order to enhance network performance? Appreciate your support sir.

Best practices? 1. Enable TLS/HTTPS 2. Use a reverse proxy if you can and know how to do it. If you don't know how look into Caddy and use a reverse proxy. 3. Force all users to have passwords. 4. Don't allow remote access for Admin accounts. If you do then make sure the passwords are strong. 5. Don't show users on the remote login page. 6. Don't show admin users on any login page. 7. Don't use the name Admin for your main admin user.

How did you go? I loaded the app on my Samsung tablet and it seems ok, still got to try the apple app. Haven't tried to go outside my network yet, not that I really need to..

You DO want throttling enabled for regular usage and I think @Lessaj suggested turning it off so that you could force a full workload test to keep your CPU busy and get an idea of what your i3 can do. Which by the way should be fine. On average you wouldn't expect all users to be transcoding video all the time and audio transcoding is a light workload. Throttling does enough work to keep a playback buffer full then pauses. Turning off throttling lets the server transcode to the end of the video at full speed even if you're only 10 minutes in. If you or your users decide to stop watching to come back later, pause, or hate the show/movie and quit then that work is wasted. When multiple users are watching and need transcoding then having throttling enabled can level out the workload and leave more headroom for other tasks.

I have a TV with Google TV, and with Emby it doesn't automatically set the Hz. It stays at 60 HZ.

Hi, sorry for the downtime! I think it's a WebOS version issue. My TV is 4 years old and the OS version is 04.50.56. There is no need to insist further. My Conversions page is empty. My Downloads page has a mixture of "Downloaded" and "Ready to transfer". If a download status is "Ready to transfer", these are the jobs with files taking up space in my sync folder? Is there a more automated way I could "clean up" things in downloads / conversions folder using the API?

I'm not sure how "best practice" applies, really. You want to create a user - do it. You want to give the user access to specific libraries - do it. And so on. No one's going to judge how you do it. Emby is a personal (and family) server, and: "Your media, your way" is an Emby slogan. Paul

Maybe show a screenshot of your router port forward rule. Don't show your WAN IP. The key here is to ensure 8096 is 'listening' on your LAN/WAN interface - so unless canyouseeme sees the port as 'open' - emby is never going to work remotely.

I have added the 192.168.0.0/24 to the lan networks and played an episode and no change. Where do i change the bit rate for the local network? and what would be the ideal number? Thanks everyone
