Kyrunner 16
Can someone explain to me why Infuse and Plex on the Apple TV play 4k mkv hdr files without issues but the emby app can’t play HDR? is this something being looked it.

To cut a long story short: 1. Emby server does not support HLS using fMP4 container, so MKV HEVC streaming using native player is not possible (full transcode is required) 2. MPV does not support HDR passthrough Time passes and problems remain Edited April 18, 2021 by vdatanet
raevengel 0
Does this mean Emby doesn't play any HDR - and is this issue on AppleTV only? Or is it affecting other players like Roku, Shield, etc?

Emby is fine on every other device, just the AppleTV, a device that makes it difficult for users to play their own content, has a "bad" experience. If you want HDR/DolbyVision move to Android or Roku.

vdatanet 1548
It's hard to understand why oranges and purples have HLS fMP4, but green ones don't.

We'd have to look at an example, but this should be improved following the Emby Server 4.7 release as well as release of the updated Emby Apple TV app. Thanks.

Any idea on when these updates will come out? Was going to switch to Plex for Dolby Vision support but may hold off if this is happening soon.
