MKV/TS/MP4 Dolby Vision don't work.

Hi everyone, it was been for a while now than MKV and TS supports Dolby Vision i'm wondering if why the LG Player was not update consequently with those updates ?

Anyone know if this was a fault of LG or a Fault of Emby ?

If it was a fault of LG, can Emby do some check with LG ? 

My tv is the LG C9 JFI

Just a other push up to say than the LG app stay very slow with big library, waiting those update since a year. Please Emby staff let us know how is going the Emby update on the LG review proces.

Hi, can you please share an example.

Just be aware that for DolbyVision to work correctly, you will need to ensure the movie is using DirectPlay.  If it is transcoding then it won't be possible.

You can try playing your movie via a USB drive with the built-in player to confirm if the format is supported by the TV.

I've tried via USB on an LG C8 and it plays single and double layer Dolby Vison MKV's as HDR10 only.

Given DoVi via MKV is only recently possible, it's not surprising. 

Maybe worth trying .MP4 ?

Only works mp4 with emby (No transcoding on files even on mkv) but mkv says than it's HDR10 when the movie is at normally Dolby Vision and same thing for files with ts containers, 

Also I want to advert then I don't allow transcoding on my emby server so don't worry the files play automatically in directly play format.

Yeah but I have a movie which play as DolbyVision is an mp4 and mp4 is supported on LG C9 for DolbyVision

BTW and what about Apple TV, IPhone and all other devices, on my mobile it shows colors like purple and green on face and clouth. 

 

 I will go to turn my server back in beta since is a issue with the media play I thought it was a issue with server side so I reversed back to latest so now I put it back to beta. 

I'm very excited about support for Dolby Vision in mobile and etc... IOS and most 99% recent devices support it (Avoid Samsung OK their have done a very dumb choice I'm not aware about what they do) 

This is my movies encoding détails but looks like also a IMAX with DolbyVision such as maybe not supported.

There is two layers but the movies original name is:

Mission.Impossible.Fallout.2018.MULTI.IMAX.2160p.DOLBY.VISION.UHD.BluRay.REMUX.DD5.1.HEVC-ABF

 

IMAX and DolbyVision it's a MP4 it have a sample which unfortunately the link is no more available. But it works on LG C9 Plex only on with emby doesn't works and on ATV not works by PLEX or EMBY

CyberPoison sent from my app which is the latest beta tester app. 18:14 gmt+1 from my ATV emby beta latest app. Please check your logs from emby ATV app 

 

I also sent a logs from bones which is a AVI format than don't works I already open a ticket about it somewhere, but just say than I send a other logs about Bones (CyberPoison) avi container which don't load at all at 18h17 gmt+1

 

 

This movies works on plex native LG C9 apps but not in emby LG app can you check this tell me if there is a way to send logs?

Did you try this, if it doesn't work then there is nothing we can do.   If it does, then it should already work as long as you DirectPlay (which won't be possible if it is a TrueHD or DTS track, or PGS subs)

As I can see mp4 single layer and double return a green bizarre image on LG TV but with plex it plays fine, both single and dual layer. 

@SamES

Plex return DolbyVision on both single and dual layer while the LG Emby app return a green image like show above my format is mp4.

the movie above is mp4 single layer and it show me green images unfortunately

So I'm not quite sure what you want here.

Did you try this?

We/you need to determine:

  • Can the TV play this directly from the USB as you expect it to - you need to test and confirm this?
    • If it can, then we can look further into why it is not playing correctly via the app
  • If it cannot, then we need to transcode it
    • This won't work for you as you have turned off.  This is not really a good idea as you are forcing the TV and other clients to DirectPlay files that the devs have determined cannot be DirectPlayed.  You are really then trying to do something that might not even be possible.
    • Transcoding will probably result in the loss of HDR or DV, etc, so this still won't meet your needs.

If it does not working via USB connected to the TV, but it does work in Plex (with the Plex LG client or using XPlay?) with DV and HDR then it is possible that they are using a 3rd party player and not the build in player that is used by the Emby client on the LG TV.

Also to inform than tomorrow will test more movies under MKV and MP4 dual layer and single to check what of them works

OK, thanks.  Can you please try again in Emby on the details screen before you start playback, please turn off subtitles and make sure the first audio track is selected?

In that video it is DirectStreaming which is possibly an issue. Did you try this and turn the subs off before playback?

It looks like you have 3Mbit limit set, either in the quality settings during playback, or on the server, but because you have disabled playback of transcoded video it is converting the audio. 
 

We really need to get this all back to ‘normal’ settings so that we can follow what’s going on. 
 

Please make sure any bitrate limits are turned off and quality is set to auto, then turn on all the user options to allow transcoding, conversions, etc, then try playback without any subtitles

Yes it was a issue with the bitrate 😉, thanks but there at normally disabling video transcode it should use the max video bitrate allowed right? 

 

There is a way to set all my users internet bitrate to maximum? By default?

Where did you have the bitrate set?  Was that on the client in the Playback Quality settings?

Because you still allow audio conversion it was converting audio, but as soon it changed from DirectPlay, I think this is where you issues start.  You need to make sure this uses DirectPlay to work as you expect.

Does that mean it is now DirectPlaying?  Are the colors all good now?

By default all users should be at maximum.  Are all user on the local network, or are they remote?

It's from a hosted server, it was in auto in my playback on the TV btw i would like to set it to maximum by default instead of auto, can you tell me how to do that, in all users as bulk, if I disable video transcoding and audio its still green 😢

But as all users have the video transcode disabled and when they install emby on LG they can't set a diferent bitrate because it's locked as to auto in LG client playback. 

So let me try in auto as video and audio transcoding disabled.

Auto is maximum.  What auto means is that it will do a quick bitrate speed test before playback, and it will only convert the video if it exceeds the maximum rate in the speed test.  You can't set it to ignore this speed test.

I don't think there is a bulk way to change the playback quality setting for all users, and it won't prevent users from changing it.

Disabling these 3 options is probably the only way to prevent any transcoding (don't forget to press save at the bottom of the page).  You will need to change this setting for each user, but it is not really a good idea as it may cause playback failures if the format is not supported or the network performance is not acceptable.

And just to allow re encoding for live tv channels because i can't watch them on web browser they need a reencoding

You know that on the server you can change these for each user fairly quickly.

Otherwise, look in config/users on the server where Emby is installed.  Each user folder has a policy.xml file with these settings.

You must shutdown the server before changing these and I would recommend taking a backup first as you can easily make a mess.  This is not a recommended way of making changes.

To be honest, I think it is quicker to do this on the server in settings (tick three boxes and hit save) for each user than editing lots of text files and possibly making a mistake.

My point is to force 4K HDR / Dolby Vision to work without rencoding or transcoding.
but allow FHD HD etc... to be rencoded
