Emby on Pi and Permissions

Hi

I am trying to setup Emby on Pi 4. Have media on an external NTFS drive. It is mounted at /mnt/3TB. I can see all the directories and files in File Manager. However in Emby I can see the directories and video files but music (Flac) files do not appear. Jpeg also do not appear. Here is a screen shot showing the permission on the /mnt/3TB/Flac directory.

Thanks for any help

Hi here is Fstab line which I thought gave emby permission over the drive mounted at /mnt/3TB

UID="8858A17A58A16820" /mnt/3TB ntfs  defaults,auto,uid=emby,gid=users,rw,nofail,unmask=000,noatime 0 0

Thanks. But not sure how to do that.

Thanks again

just start at the root of the mount and ls -l like you did for the files.  do it for each directory.

The permissions seem ok but none of the jpg files are turning up in Emby

Thanks

John

what user is your emby server running as?

also NTFS sucks.  try using the uid/gid ids instead of the names in your fstab, then remount with umount -a && mount -a

Hi

Not sure I am logged in as Pi

The left hand mixed Content Library is /home/Pi/Tower2016 and this seems to work fine. Except the album image jpeg shows up on the album but when you click on the album each track is missing the image.

Centre mixed content is /mnt/3TB.  so FLac, Pictures, TV after Sept 2017, are visible. The .mp4 files in the TV folder are visible and work ok. But .flac and .jpeg  the folders show up but no files. Video files are visible in these folders

Music is /mnt/3TB/Flac again the 542 albums show up but not the individual tracks.

Thank you for your help

John

Okay, lets look to see what groups emby has access to with this command:  groups emby

If it does not list the users group, then lets add it to the emby account with this command:  usermod -a -G users emby.

I suspect that the 3TB drive is probably owned by and assigned to the pi group, and if the emby user is not also a member of the pi group it will not be able to access any files or directories within it, so you will want to add the emby user to that group as well, with this command:   usermod -a -G pi emby.

Done a reboot

No difference.

I dont understand why I can see folders and can play .mp4 files and they are in emby correctly. I can play any content with File Manager in the /mnt/3TB  folder.

Thanks

John

Groups emby gives the result emby : emby video render

There's your problem.  the emby user does not have access to the "users" group, and therefore cannot see or access any files assigned to that group.  Run the command I gave you in my last post.

usermod -a -G users emby

If you look at latest screenshot I have done that. No difference. Note on this screen shot from Mixed Content the the TV folder is showing the correct 343 files.

unmask=000 isn't a real parameter.  you want umask=000

not sure if that's the problem here, it could be, but fstab is definitely not doing what you think it is at the moment.  fix that and umount -a && mount -a

Hi

Thanks. Corrected that but still no difference.

John

assuming you remounted the drive, try a library scan.

this is truly bizarre.  ok delete your emby log file and rescan, then post the new log file here.

you need to use the sudo rm to delete stuff not owned by the pi user.  You should also turn off automatic port mapping if you're not planning to use it because it's spamming your logs with errors.

anyway, i can see where you inititated the library scan, and emby sees the folders.  at this point I'm at a loss as to why these files are unable to be viewed in emby.
