Guest deleteduser0341
Whenever I attempt to play a file with .ASS subtiltes on my Samsung TV, the subtitles either don't show at all or appear but out of sync. This has been an issue for as long as I can remember, but in the past .ASS has been rare for me, so I never bothered to report it. Now however it has become quite irritating as I'm consuming more media using this subtitle format. The file and subtitle run fine in other apps such as Emby Theater. VLC will load them fine too, so there's nothing wrong with the file. According to the TV app the file is (as it should) being direct played, so I don't think it's a transcoding issue. If someone could help me solve this I would be immensely thankful. I'll provide the details of a singular file below, however, it does appear with all files which have .ASS subtitles that I have tried. Tizen OS version: 1242 Samsung TV model: UE55KS8005 Emby client version: 1.0.86 Emby server version: 4.5.3.0 I could not find a log matching the timeframe where I tested this. FrostByte 5052
Does it work any better when the subs are external? I've run several movies with external ASS with no problems, so wondering if that may be the issue
Guest deleteduser0341
I'm not sure, I don't have external subtitles at hand.
SamES 891
There have been some changes to ass handling in recent versions. Looking at the version number you’re using, I expect you are using the version from the App Store. The new version with these changes is being processed by Samsung, which shouldn’t take too long, but at this time of year who scan be sure. Alternatively, you can load the Beta version from USB but it needs to be regularly updated manually, so if you can wait a week or two to try the new store version that is probably worthwhile. I think it will resolve your issues.

Since the Samsung app will play the ASS subtitles if extracted manually I would say the subs are good. It's just the automatic extraction of internal ASS subtitles which isn't happening correctly using the Samsung app Edited December 27, 2020 by FrostByte

Happy2Play 8296
I assume everyone has "Allow subtitle extraction on the fly" enable on Dashboard-Transcoding Allow subtitle extraction on the fly Embedded subtitles can be extracted from videos and delivered to Emby apps in plain text in order to help prevent video transcoding. On some systems this can take a long time and cause video playback to stall during the extraction process. Disable this to have embedded subtitles burned in with video transcoding when they are not natively supported by the client device.
FrostByte 5052
LOL, no. I turned that off because was told it took less resources (though slight) during playback to extract them myself beforehand. @Midaz your file plays fine on my TV now using internal ASS subs with that option set.
