Kill 4K Transcode Streams/Paused Time Out

So I downloaded the newest plugin release from your github, I put it inside of my plugins folder, I restarted the server.

Then I checked and I saw plugin appeared under plugins, I left configuration as default.

I tried to play a 4k movie on Microsoft Edge on my pc, and movie got transcoded, but it never kill the stream, I done the same test with my android phone and nothing happens. I left it to play for a few min and the stream never got killed. 

When I went under logs, it seems like server recognize that I have this plugin, but plugin never gets activated during playback.

So only parts of the log which has a word killstream are:

Is there something I mess up, or maybe just on this type of devices, your plugin doesn't work?

 

No idea, it works in FireFox and on Shields.  Those what I use to test with.  You would need to attach full logs and what the your config looks like.   There are two plugin dirs, you sure you put it in the right one?  The plugin has a sched task that runs every 1 min.  Thats when the things are killed, there isno way to prevent it from happening so at most it would transcode 1min before the job kicks off again.    If plugin already installed, in the sched tasks press the roate logs button, start a transcode wait a min or two and then wait a min for the logs to update and let me know.

Hi..

I am having some issues with this plugin where it appears its not working -

* Version 4.5.4.0
* installed plugin latest version from git repo Release 2021.01.12.1
* enabled pause kill after 1 min and enabled to allow audio transcode
* Info SessionManager: Playback start reported by app Emby Web 4.5.4.0

I will enable debug for logs and capture further.. what can i grep for to extract the specifics possibly?

Not all "clients" are equal, I only tested with shield and web browser, as thats all I use.  I was making some plugins for me to transition to Emby, but I still very much only use Plex.  Emby is just meh, and the api and differences between features on each "client" makes things even more meh.

That’s a beta and you didn’t say what client you used and there is a sched job that runs every 1 min to kill the streams so you can start it but after 1 min it will kill it and there are logs. So post your emby sever logs

Vivaldi Browser (built on chrome i guess?)

Shield tv emby app.

Now i got the popup about transcoding 4k but after pressing OK, stream still playing xD.

Yes you would place it in "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\plugins".

It keeps playing in what client?  Shield? Vivaldi?  There is no way to to prevent the person from playing the file, if they want to keep watching in 1min intervals I guess they can lol.
This is where I said not all clients are created equal, some I can only pass "pause" to, others I pass "stop".  I issue both to the client, and "stop" is the last in the sequence but if the client doesnt support it and only supports pause well they can just press play again.

 

If you check in the logs I think I list what the client supports.

Hi

Would love to use this, but does not seem to work at all for me. Using Emby version 4.6.2.0 and Release 2021.03.02.1 of Killstreams.

I tried playing a 4k remux in 1080p quality in chrome and stream is transcoding and playing the movie. also tried to pause and stream is not killed for that either.

Put the dll in /var/lib/emby/plugins/KillStreams.dll. Plugin is present in Emby and I can set the settings.

I moved on, Emby is kind of a crappy product and the API is pretty horrible and they dont seem to want to support devs.  It most likely just needs the api nuget updated to align to the versions, but who knows even when I used it the API didnt work on all devices in the same manor, some devices didnt have stop, some only had pause so was a crap shoot.

Ive been a long time plex user.  I dabbled in Jelly but its an emby clone so many of the issues still exist but I might try the 4k kill script its pretty similar to what this one was doing, though when using Jelly/Emby with Infuse on AppleTV the UI is way better, but infuse has its own issues, Plex so far is the reigning king when it comes to UI and ease of use especially when you pair it with shield/appletv.

Why give access to 4K content to users if you only intend to kill their sessions?

Why not hide this media from them so they can't play it in the first place?

Because if you direct play the 4k its fine, if you're going to transcode because the client is setup wrong its bad.  Pretty self explanatory.

Then I'd rather help my user fix the playback problem so they can direct play it assuming they have the bandwidth and equipment to do so.
That's what I've done.  Those that can't play the 4K material don't get access to it on my server.
