metropical 15
Emby server 4.4.3 Roku HD2 (older device) in another location. The network is slow bonded DSL. I don't know what versions of Emby is on the Roku. It appears that it may be different then what I have locally. Is there any way to check or update it? I am using the Remote (WAN) IP and I get this error:-3:port number ended with 'colon' I assume that is the correct IP to use as compared to the LAN. Port forward comes from MacBook Air that is the server. Do I need to Port Forward instead from the Ethernet/USB adapter attached to the MBA for internet connect? Luke 32992
Hi there, what version of the Roku app are you running? Is the Roku firmware up to date?
metropical 15
I assume you mean version of the Emby app for Roku? How would I find that? I'll check the Roku firmware this evening.

I'll check the Roku firmware this evening. When you open the app hit the star key on remote to open settings, or scroll to the bottom and enter settings to find the version. Or you can open the app then look on the server dashboard in Active Devices to see the version number.
metropical 15
Roku v9.1 Emby 3.0.212 Port Forward below. But when I check canyouseeme.org. It says no, but with different IP. Edited July 9, 2020 by metropical
metropical 15
I got in from Emby app on my cell via my cell spot. So local, but not. But I had to enter the IP Manually with Emby Connect. Why might that be? But this was a test, not from the Roku.
metropical 15
seems to be working now. However, the Roku/Emby app is back a generation or is that the highest it will go because of the age of the Roku? Or is there a way to force update the Roku/Emby app? speechles 1809
On your Roku press the HOME button twice. Go to Settings >> System >> System Update >> Check Now That will update anything on your Roku out-of-date including the firmware. You can also use the Emby Beta of the Roku app. This is where the updates happen first then they trickle down to the store version after they are tested in the Beta. metropical 15
The Roku is not the issue, it is up to date. I'd just like to have the latest (non beta) version of the Emby app on the remote Roku box.. the Emby app on the local Roku TV is 4.04. at the remote Roku the Emby app is 3.0.212 is there a way to force the remote version to update to 4.04 or is that the highest it will go because of the age of the Roku. speechles 1809
Yes, The Beta is 4.04. The store version is 3.0.212. There is the difference. You want to load the Beta on your remote Roku. Beta does not imply Broken, Buggy, or Bad. It means that is the version where features/fixes appear first. Then after some time it pushes to the store. The Beta can be updated without approval. We can update the Beta immediately. The store version Roku must first approve before it updates. Edited July 11, 2020 by speechles

metropical 15
the remote Roku/Emby app isn't auto updating. Can I force it from here or does it have to be done locally? And if so, how is that done there? Both devices are "linked" in my Roku acct and I added the channel from the Roku store, but only the local Roku has Emby 4.x. speechles 1809
is this an Roku 2 HD? If so I have some unfortunate news. Those models can no longer be updated from the Roku store. This is not our decision. It was made by Roku. I also have an Roku XD and Roku 2XS that met the same fate. Relegated. Effectively once the applications on them stop working or become inferior Roku suggests using them as a door stop, seriously. Or a cool art deco piece of art of a by gone era. It won't be useful for much longer. Roku cannot continue to support advancements in software using the older hardware in those older Roku models. It is a sign of the times. The future has to move forward and time does not wait. https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/roku-is-ending-support-for-older-models/ Edited July 11, 2020 by speechles
metropical 15
I kind of figured this was the case as Hulu ended their support recently. I was thinking a necklace like a VW badge. Or a very low foot stool. It's too tall for a doorstop. Screw the future! I'm just about to upgrade my 2006 MacPro1,1 from 2x DC 2.66G to a 2x QC 3G. It'll be more betterer than my 2013 MBA DC 1.7G i7 running Mavs. Forward into the past! Do these people realize how valuable certain old wines or Ferraris are? metropical 15
nope. got it figured out. Thanks, Luke. I'd inadvertently left the VPN engaged. it's running quite well even on the slow remote connect of 2Mb.
