xe` 42 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 This concept has been mentioned before but it has been lost each within much bigger harder to implement changes (a.k.a good ideas that are never going to happen). In these modern times of binge watching it is common for someone to not start to consume a show until the current season is complete. Whilst I do realise there is room for nuance in this (e.g. current season airing and last season unwatched) I propose we ignore all this for a much simpler "at a glace" easier to implement option. Change the shape or colour of the unwatched episode counter to indicate when the latest season has completed. I tried to mock something up just changing the green circle to a gold star but i soon realised i have the skills of a 5yo and cant do it. Perhaps someone else can. 3
ebr 15439 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 How do we know when the latest season has completed?
xe` 42 Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 Doesn't tvdb have it? I just assumed that it did since it so many other status events. I went to try but their online api doc and tester doesnt work without creds i dont have
Luke 38850 Posted May 23, 2020 Posted May 23, 2020 They don't explicitly have that information. The best we could do is check for the presence of subsequent episodes.
xe` 42 Posted May 23, 2020 Author Posted May 23, 2020 That doesn't feel particularly elegant but on the other hand its essentially what us humans are doing currently. I know i constantly click on a show and scroll to see if any episodes are listed as unaired etc. The wheels of TVDB turn slowly so we either ponder how to make this as accurate as we can or wait (potentially forever) for upstream to add the feature. I dont think we should wait as if they ever do get it we can move to it without changing the Emby presentation to the end user.
ebr 15439 Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 I'm not sure how we would make it obvious what this new color/indicator means but we will monitor this request for interest. Thanks.
xe` 42 Posted May 25, 2020 Author Posted May 25, 2020 If visual "intuitiveness" is all that stands in our way then we have a very small hill to cross. Although I am not sure that waiting for some +1s on a single random dudes forum post (me) among 839,000 other posts is the best way to garner interest. IMO I would be very surprised if done right this receives anything other than praise. So let me know if you want to push forward and we can go over design ideas and if you could cc in anyone who can do mock ups that would help a lot.
mark-in-dallas 87 Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 (edited) I was going to post the same request, but posed differently. Gracenote should be able to provide series/season finale data, but I don't think that they currently do. Can you submit a request to them. They could simply add it to the area where they display New|Repeat|Live||Premiere and episode information, then add a notation that the episode is a season finale or series finale to the episode information. xe` 42 Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 TVDB now has this information available taking away all guess work. For example Season Finale https://thetvdb.com/series/justified/seasons/official/1 And Series Finale 2
GrimReaper 3798 Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Those tags would actually nicely tie-up with another FR: If last episode: 1) Has NO tags - "Airing" 2) Has "Season finale" tag - "Returning" 3) Has "Series finale" tag - "Ended" 1
xe` 42 Posted October 24, 2023 Author Posted October 24, 2023 Another tag since I know it exists, mid-season finale https://thetvdb.com/series/american-horror-story/seasons/official/12
