Audio issues...

Best Answer ebr , 27 March 2020 - 03:20 PM

Attached are the options available.  All set to auto for now.

Okay, a lot of those will not be supported with your connection type.

First thing I'd do is set it to the connection you actually have - instead of HDMI bitstreaming, try SPDIF passthru.  If that doesn't work, set only the "normal" codecs on (DD, DTS, AAC).

Further update. My experience with drop outs was when using the latest 2019 Shield TV (tubular). I have just tried playing the clip with my 2015 Shield TV and there are no audio dropouts so it seems confined to the newest players.

Did you verify the problem occurs with the sample?

Yes. Dropouts on the Shield TV 2019, no dropouts on Theatre or Shield TV 2015.

I have no problems with either audio track on multiple devices - including a Shield tube.

Have you checked all your audio connections?

Sounds like an audio buffer issue that I resolved with Theater/mpv. I just increased the buffer size for the audio device in the player. The buffer size may not be big enough for the devices the Shield is connected to, and there's buffer underrun.

Yes, audio connections checked although I will swap out the Shield HDMI cable to be sure. Annoyingly I have been back and checked the sample track again this morning and it plays without problem!

I went to the Nvidia Forum and it seems someone else is having the same problem, albeit with Plex. Nvidia suggest a new HDMI cable.

Nvidia support say;

"I experience this myself on the 2019 base model at times and we've been debugging it. We believe there is an under-run happening in the MS12 Dolby stack that is included in the new SHIELD and are working on resolving it. It should get fixed in the next release."

no word yet on a date for the next f/w release.
