Audio issues...

Best Answer ebr , 27 March 2020 - 03:20 PM

Attached are the options available.  All set to auto for now.

Okay, a lot of those will not be supported with your connection type.

First thing I'd do is set it to the connection you actually have - instead of HDMI bitstreaming, try SPDIF passthru.  If that doesn't work, set only the "normal" codecs on (DD, DTS, AAC).

I'm not exactly sure where to post this... Or what might be needed..server side logs, or even android TV logs...

I noticed about a week or so ago this problem, then updated to the beta Android TV, same issue, and now the server, same issue.

The audio "mostly" works, but when it starts to play it seems fine, however when people start to talk they are very very very soft, almost a completely to low frequency.  To fix it oddly.. it take a bit of fast forward, rewind, back/forth, then all of a sudden it works.  So I watch it.  Pausing afterwards is fine, I have not tried again to fast-forward/rewind.  More a pain, and not sure what the issue is.  I know a while ago with a beta android TV update there were issues with no audio at all, from what I saw it was fixed, this seems similar, but weird that when people are talking are soft, while all other noise, music, even voice-overs sounds completely fine, just people talking (until I mess with fast-forward/rewind a bunch).

Attached is the latest emby-server log.  I hope it helps.  I believe the time starting is ~ 19:07:07.887 and remote IP  192.168.66.137 (android TV device)

Hi.  Exactly what equipment and connections are involved here?  Also, what type of audio.

From mkvinfo, it appears:

Codec ID: A_EAC3

Ethernet, same subnet, same home network.  Android TV client device, server at 4.4.0 now.   Also confirmed that going back to 1.78 on the ATV resolved the situation and works.  I'll see if I can get a logcat off the device.

I meant version 1.7.78g resolved the issue.  I updated to the normal (non-Beta) release 1.7.92g and had the issue.  Attached is a logcat info during a playback.  I hope it helps.

Hi.  Exactly what Android TV device and hooked up to what and how?

Also, can you please use our facility for sending the log from the app instead?

Thanks.

This is the device.  HDMI hooked up, and splitting the HDML audio out via this device:  https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01LL5RI3Y

https://www.banggood...-p-1471897.html

I did send logs via app (never noticed that there), about 12:48 (Eastern), user meddaugh, media:  The Heat

I noticed as well, the volumne on the Android TV device does nothing anymore, turning up/down appears to change vol., but it does not appear to have any affect with the sound.  The background music was all the was heard.

I have audio set to "auto", have tried downmix to stero without any difference.

A tos-link cable input into the audio sound system, also.. forgot that step.  My audio sound does not have HDMI in (older system), so had to split out to get a optical input.

Okay, so that's a whole bunch of non-standard stuff :).

Your HDMI connection is reporting support for DD+ but, when you split that off into an optical cable, then that is no longer going to be supported.

Are you 100% sure setting to downmix made no difference?  That should solve any compatibility problems for you.  The overall sound may be lower but it should be properly balanced.

As for volume control - that is not possible at the Android end when we are bitstreaming audio.  Volume has to be handled by the device doing the decoding (your receiver).

I change to downmix to stero, tried again, same result.  Send logs: 13:21, same info as before.

This was always working fine in the 1.7.78 version, it would even pass full surround, so even if I down mixed to stero, I'd lose that.  Any way to fix, or add an option somehow vs. staying on 1.7.78, which I know even if it works now, will eventually need to be updated.  Not sure it is that non-standard, really just the HDMI audio splitter that I need to have in there.

Makes sense about volumne control.  It's just weird that music is fine, but people voices are not heard.

What kind of audio settings are there on the device itself?  I think if you can stop the device from advertising support for DD+ then it may work for you.

Okay, a lot of those will not be supported with your connection type.

First thing I'd do is set it to the connection you actually have - instead of HDMI bitstreaming, try SPDIF passthru.  If that doesn't work, set only the "normal" codecs on (DD, DTS, AAC).

Well that seemed to fix it.  I only had to set to SPDIF passthru.  Thanks for much for the help figuring this issue out.  I really do appreciate the time spent, when it was a user mis-configuration.

I just experienced this myself last night. Shield TV and Server on latest beta's. Live TV via NextPVR running on Win10. Denon receiver to 7 channel power amp, all HDMI. Receiver set for pass-through of DD, DTS, AAC etc

Middle of playing back a BBC recording and the voice became a whisper. Tried pausing, rewinding and re-playing but problem still there. I stopped the playback, opened another recording and audio was OK so resumed the original and a everything was fine for the rest of the program. Unable to replicate but can send logs if they are of any use. Never had it before latest beta.

I was able to resolve it by adjusting the audio profile in settings.  It seems like Emby is doing a much better job (appropriately so) of detecting and sending what your devices "says" it supports, even though what goes past it might not support it (in my case).

And happened again last night with a DD6+1 movie track, not a recording. Resolved by stopping playback and rebooting  Denon receiver. I will revert to using Theatre for the next couple of nights and see if the problem persists.

I just played the movie Togo and about 10 minutes in the audio drops out and does not happen when I am using Theatre for playback (same amp,TV etc) of the same movie. This is not happening with Prime TV/YouTube other material playback on the Shield.

I can replicate with this movie (it has two language tracks if that makes any difference) if you need it to test once I figure how to cut out the relevant section for you.  I seem to recall the TV program with audio dropouts was also dual track - maybe therein lies the problem?

OK, managed to cut a clip from the movie which has dropouts on the Shield TV, English DD+ track. French track seems to work OK.

Did you verify the problem occurs with the sample?
