Hi,

Unfourtunately I've been running into trouble playing 4K HDR where the video and audio freeze but on the dashboard the timestamp continues. I have attached the logs below but I am unsure whats wrong. I'm trying to watch Joker off my Nvidia Sheild which is on the same network as my server. Both connected by ethernet and I have 500mb download(speedtested) but I dont think speed should matter as much on a local network. Plus ive been able to play movies of similar or higher bitrate before such as Aquaman. You might be able to read the logs better as Joker shouldve been the last movie in the logs. Also its direct playing. My server is a dedicate i7-4770 with 8GB and has no other apps other than sonarr and radarr, I understand the problem usually is too high bittrate but it doesn't make sense as everything should be able to handle it.

Hope this helps and I hope you can help.

Another update. It seems to be happening with most movies. I tried gravity in 1080p and that froze the first 3 seconds. That should definitely not be happening. Joker was 53mb bitrate and I was able to watch Aquaman 150mb a week ago.

Also, I understand i'm on the beta but it happened on 4.4.0 too, I updated to the beta to see if it would fix it.

Hi, this is a whole folder full of log files. Which ones is from the timeframe when the problem was experienced?

I don't know the issue but looking at the "ffmpeg-remux-e66c577d-28ba-414b-8f7d-d4b11f88995a_1.txt" the media is not being processed fast enough..

I just don't know how. Where's the bottleneck. I've a i7 powering the server. Ethernet to router. Playing the files off a shield to the TV also connected through the router. 500mb dl speed on all devices. I've also played these and much bigger files before. Aaand I'm direct playing.

Best guess is the "yuv420p10le" or "Level 153" as this level is beyond most devices technical listed limits.  Pretty sure level 153 is equal to 5.2.

Just guessing, but a dev will have to comment.

I don't get you. Also, for 1080p movies like gravity? And how could there be a downloadable 4k movie that can't be played possibly.

Only looked at one log.  When reporting a issue you have to provide one example with logs explaining the issue.  .

Need to know specific logs to look at if you are going to zip the log folder.  Ideally provide just the server and ffmpeg log for the issue.

What log is Gravity in?

Sorry I hadn't tried gravity when I did these logs. Will reupload. But I'm not sure how to decipher the logs that well. Basically the logs I uploaded. The most recent watch is the Joker for a few mins and that's where the freezes occur.

Tried a fresh install but no luck. Wiped all my logs except the ones I uploaded but the most recent logs contain the crashes of Joker and it should be a bitrate I can easily handle. Right?

I have two E5-2670 v2 Xeon's in my current server (that's over $3,000 US in processors) and that server couldnt keep up with 60-70mbps 10bit HDR.    I have recently added an NVIDIA RTX 4000 and have not had issues since.   an i7 is not necessarily great for transcoding.   Bottle neck (other than the CPU) can still exist in the server or client.   Tough to say without knowing your hardware and how its connected from drive to client.

Sorry, I know that isn't helpful, but just wanted to point out the CPU thing...  I thought for sure my two xenons would eat up any transcoding I needed to do, but I was smacked to reality when I tried some of the higher end videos lol...

@pir8radio - That's a bit confusing..

@Jakebyrne123 - @pir8radio is talking about software (CPU) transcoding because multi-socket Xeon CPUs don't support QuicSync. But your CPU supports QuickSync - that's a totally different situation.

Could you please try the following:

  • Switch Hardware Acceleration to "Advanced"
    .
  • Uncheck all QuickSync  encoders and decoders which are having "D3D11" in the name
    .
  • Check all other QuickSync codecs

Retry.

Sorry, yes I was talking software transcode for the most part.

But benchmarks look similar to what I was describing, Blue-my Xeon Red- his i7 w/quicksync enabled

Good luck troubleshooting @Jakebyrne123 @softworkz is pretty decent at video. you are in good hands..   :)

But if he's getting low fps also with just the audio being transcoded, doesn't that imply that video transcoding is a 'red herring'? And that there's something else causing a problem?
